Respawn Entertainment recently announced Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, the sequel to Fallen Order set 5 years after it. Much of what was reported on beforehand was confirmed, including its platforms, release window, and the focus on Cal Kestis. However, one detail it was interesting to learn is that it’s set five years after Fallen Order.

This puts it in the same time frame as the Disney Plus show Obi-Wan Kenobi, around 9 BBY. As a result, many are hoping there is some form of crossover, with Cal appearing in the show or Obi-Wan appearing in the game. One rumor, however, points to another major character appearing in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

This should be taken with a grain of salt, but known insider Nick Baker shared that he had heard Darth Maul would be in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. As many know, he survives his apparent death in The Phantom Menace, appears in the Clone Wars and other Star Wars media, and does not officially meet his end until Star Wars Rebels, around 2 BBY. Thus, in terms of the timeline, it fits. Baker’s comments can be seen around the 30:38 marker below.

However, even Baker suggests fans should take this at face value. He had originally heard this about a year ago, and anything can change in a year. Now, of course, that would be a big change, but Star Wars Jedi: Survivor fans should still temper expectations. It would be interesting to see more of Darth Maul, but it’s clear Cal is on a darker journey this time around anyway.

Its darker tone is perfectly highlighted, as the game has already trumped up the Empire and has many fans questioning who’s in the bacta tank in the Star Wars Jedi: Survivor trailer. All that’s really known about the story so far is that Cal is attempting to stay one step ahead of the Empire, feeling the pressure of being one of the last remaining Jedi in the galaxy.

Beyond that, Respawn has promised to expand upon several Star Wars stories, worlds, characters, and combat as seen in the first game. In fact, Respawn Director Stig Asmussen even suggested that new lightsaber styles and stances for combat could be in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. All of this, including Maul, is still up in the air, but it seems safe to say that the first trailer definitely put a fire under the fanbase.
