Respawn Entertainment has released nine minutes of gameplay footage from Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. The footage gives players an extended glimpse at Cal Kestis' latest adventure, as he attempts to restore the Jedi Order in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor has big boots to fill. 2019's Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was a massive surprise to fans, with low expectations allowing Respawn Entertainment to surpass them with ease. Despite the size of the Star Wars franchise, the games have often struggled to find critical success. Respawn Entertainment has looked to change that and hasn't rested on its laurels. News came recently that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will feature fast travel, a feature lacking from the original that frustrated fans of the game. If this approach is taken to every criticism of the original, the sequel will surely be a hit with fans.

The nine minutes of footage released by the developer shows off a variety of gameplay features, most returning from its predecessor, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. The footage is taken from the planet Koboh, as protagonist Cal Kestis seeks help to repair his ship. Lightsaber combat remains a key focus of the footage, which seems to be taking the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" approach. The lightsaber combat in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was widely praised, and doesn't seem to have been shaken up too much here. Most of the new content in the footage is through fresh environments and enemies, with the battle droids making a return from the prequel movies.

Fans will be excited to see the return of the popular droid BD-1, who can be seen playing a key role in the footage. His role in the first game was one of utility, but his personality and dynamic with Cal were essential to the heart of the original. In the extended gameplay, it's clear that this is continuing in the same vein in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. By expanding upon the exploits of the droid in the sequel, Respawn Entertainment could cement BD-1 as the best droid companion ever.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated titles in 2023, and fans have had to be patient to get their hands on it. Just last week, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was delayed by six weeks in order to bring it up to Respawn Entertainment's high standards. Fans will be hoping that the wait proves to be worth it, as they've already waited four years for a continuation of Cal's story. The character is one of the most popular additions to the franchise since Disney's acquisition. His voice actor and likeness, Cameron Monaghan, is a prominent TV actor, so there are options for Star Wars if it chooses to use the character beyond video games in the future.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor releases April 28 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
