EA's latest earnings call has revealed that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor has exceeded the publisher's expectations, with millions of players having already enjoyed the game since its release. Survivor launched to largely positive critic reviews on April 28, though it also suffered from severe performance problems that most reviewers couldn't overlook.

With performance patches incoming for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, however, it does seem that the game's biggest problems may end up getting resolved in relatively short order. Though it's unlikely day-one players will forget Survivor's problematic early showing any time soon, the fact remains that EA and developer Respawn are working to fix the issues quickly, and the quality of the game is paying dividends already.

Windows Central has reported that, during Electronic Arts' FY23 Q4 earnings call, company CEO Andrew Wilson said that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is performing "very strongly" compared to what the company expected. Millions of players have already given Survivor a shot, according to Wilson, and the game appears to be doing way better than its immediate predecessor, Fallen Order, did back in 2020. Though Wilson didn't offer any specifics, some context may be gleaned from the fact that over 10 million players had given Fallen Order a shot by May 2020, roughly half a year after its December 2019 release.

Star Wars Jedi Survivor (1)-1

Since Star Wars Jedi: Survivor features excellent storytelling, with equally compelling gameplay mechanics and a wealth of content, it seems very likely that this will be a long-tail release for Electronic Arts, drawing in a crowd for a good long while. However, it is curious that Wilson would say Survivor has exceeded EA's expectations. This implies that the publisher either set its performance targets low for some reason or that they were reasonably high and Survivor went beyond them anyway.

Whatever the case may be, many gamers seem to feel that Respawn Entertainment's new Star Wars entry is an excellent game marred primarily by its performance problems. The developers didn't think Jedi: Survivor needed another delay, which some people have questioned given the state it launched in. However, if post-launch patches continue resolving these issues, the damage to the game's branding should be minimal in the long run.

Most critics seem to agree that Jedi: Survivor is better than Fallen Order, and fans of the Star Wars franchise at large are bound to have a field day with the new adventures of Cal Kestis and BD-1. In fact, with the game doing as well as EA claims, it seems likely that more single-player Star Wars games might end up getting greenlit down the line.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is available now for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
