During Star Wars Celebration in Chicago this weekend, Respawn Entertainment and Electronic Arts revealed more information on Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, the long anticipated single-player game first announced at last year's EA Play conference. While the ensuing panel which followed Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order's first cinematic trailer went more in-depth on what players can expect from the newest adventure set in a galaxy far, far away, details outside of the convention have shed some light on just how much players can explore throughout the course of the game's story.

In the "Key Features" portion of the Microsoft Store listing for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order's Deluxe Edition, the final bullet point of the description eludes to how much freedom and linearity players should expect. Having "the freedom to decide where and when you'll go next," as the direct text explains, hints at the possibility of a more open-world experience. With this information, in addition to the news about how the protagonist Cal's lightsaber will "evolve" throughout the duration of the story, developer Respawn Entertainment looks to be offering as much player agency as possible in its vision of the Star Wars universe while remaining true to the canonical storyline.

This semi-open world concept is something seen before in games such as Rise of the Tomb Raider, where the world map is divided into separate sections for players to explore and complete missions in. This structure could lead to speculation of an adapted role-playing and leveling system for Fallen Order, as breaking up the world map would make it easier to scale enemy powers and difficulties by area, which might explain the idea of Cal's lightsaber's leveling capabilities.

Even with the idea of more freedom, and thus a potentially longer story, EA and Respawn have made sure there will be no shortcuts allowed for players. Making sure it doesn't repeat the infamous mistakes revolving around microtransactions and loot boxes during the release of 2017's Star Wars Battlefront 2, it's been confirmed Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order won't have any microtransactions. For now, it appears the only cosmetic exclusive in the game will be for those who pre-order, which grants players unique lightsaber and droid cosmetics.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order see players take on the role of Cal Kestis, played by actor Cameron Monaghan (Gotham, Shameless), a Jedi Padawan who survived the devastating Order 66 executed during the events of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. It will be interesting to see how his story plays out when the game launches later this year.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will release on November 15th, 2019 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
