With Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order's story trailer from EA and Respawn Entertainment now out and ready to watch, many have already begun carefully analyzing each and every detail that is currently on display. As of right now details are a bit vague, but one thing has tended to stick out in the minds of the most analytical of Star Wars fans and that is the lightsaber belonging to the game's protagonist, Cal Kestis.

In the trailer, shown during the Star Wars Celebration event, viewers are introduced to Cal, a Padawan whose Force use, along with that of other Jedi, is almost entirely curtailed following the events of Order 66 in Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. The trailer itself is prominently centered on the story, but Cal's lightsaber, which is shown multiple times throughout the trailer, has been a focal point for many and was discussed by Vince Zampella, co-founder of Respawn, and Stig Asmussen, director of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order in the "Become a Jedi" stream on Twitch.

At one point during the stream, Asmussen and Zampella are asked specifically about the worn lightsaber wielded by Cal in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. In response, Asmussen asks, "How do you know that's Cal's lightsaber?" The two go on to say that they cannot provide details about the lightsaber at this time, as doing so would involve spoilers, but "over the course of the game, it will grow and evolve." Upon being asked for clarification on the lightsaber's growth and evolution, Asmussen responds, "You heard what I said."

The tease given to us by Asmussen could suggest any number of things. The lightsaber may change physically over the course of the game's story, as alluded to by its damaged state, but perhaps there are key missing gameplay details. For example, it may be possible to upgrade the lightsaber over the course of the game to deal with tougher enemies or to change the plasma blade's color with a new lightsaber crystal.

It's interesting to think of all the potential components belonging to Respawn's upcoming title, including those regarding gameplay, story, and even the smaller, yet noticeable, details like the lightsaber. While some Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order details leaked previously, the title is still shrouded in mystery, yet it is certain to be one of this holiday season's brightest highlights.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is set to launch on November 15, 2019 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
