A demo of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order being shown behind closed doors at E3 2019 has revealed that the upcoming action-adventure game has some elements inspired by the original Knights of the Old Republic RPG. While the new gameplay demo that debuted at E3 showed off combat and minute-to-minute gameplay, this new reveal shows that there is more to do than just deflect blaster bullets and use Force powers.

According to IGN, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will feature a hub ship that will allow players to travel between planets in the galaxy, including planets they have already visited. Like the original Knights of the Old Republic, while aboard the ship players can explore the interior with main character Cal Kestis, talking to the NPC characters aboard the ship as well as other activities. Both on the ship and in the world, there are reportedly non-combat areas where players can interact with NPCs, including talking to them with multiple dialogue choices.

This ability to go back and forth, retreading planets players have already visited may further explain the Metroid-style design of Jedi: Fallen Order that Respawn teased at E3 earlier in the week. In Knights of the Old Republic, the player's ship served as a hub to visit the workbench, talk to other characters or advance their relationship with them, and select where to progress to next.

While Jedi: Fallen Order looks to be inspired by some of these elements from KOTOR, Respawn has made it very clear that the story is linear and players do not have any significant influence on the narrative's outcome, including the lack of Light and Dark Side choices. So don't take this to mean that the game is leaning hard into RPG elements, but it is definitely exciting to see that there will be more to do than hack-and-slash at Stormtroopers, as fun as that may be.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will release on November 15th, 2019, for PS4, PC, and Xbox One.
