While the Star Wars films have often shown dismemberment by having characters lose their hands, it appears as though scenes like that won't be shown in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. It's been confirmed that, despite protagonist Cal Kestis wielding a laser sword that can slice through just about anything, there will be no dismemberment of human characters in the game.

For those wondering why Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is toning down the violence, it's apparently due to Disney's rules about what can be shown in a Star Wars release. IGN spoke to a story artist for Star Wars: The Clone Wars season 7 named Drewry Carvin who explained some of Disney's rules. "One of the rules we were given was to always hide the cut in case of decapitation. And never show blood. The burn of the lightsaber is supposed to cauterize it instantly."

Respawn Entertainment will be working under similar rules when it comes to developing Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, which is why there will be no human dismemberment in the game. However, players will be able to dismember other enemy types, such as the giant spiders seen in the more recent trailers as well as robots.

While some people may want a more brutal Star Wars video game experience, others will note that this is pretty consistent with the franchise's tone. Yes, the Star Wars movies have shown dismemberment and even decapitation in the past, but usually it's done in a toned-down way. Not to mention this only happens to specific characters in specific instances, as opposed to players being able to do it constantly throughout an entire video game.

Otherwise, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order does seem to be leaning more toward a darker tone when it comes to Star Wars. Aesthetically it's reminiscent of Rogue One, certainly one of the darker movies in the series, and it even features Rogue One characters to boot. Whether or not it's able to maintain its dark tone and keep fans immersed while toning down the lightsaber violence remains to be seen, but we'll find out later this year.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will launch on November 15 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
