Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was evidently popular enough among Star Wars fans that people have been asking for a while now if a sequel was in the works. The belief that Electronic Arts and Respawn might tell more tales of Cal Kestis has been floating around the internet basically since Fallen Order released. The question is whether or not the company has any real interest in a sequel. Over the last few months, there have been some signs that hint at a Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2 indeed on the way.

A Fallen Order 2 sequel is likely in a similar boat as many other Electronic Arts titles currently in development, and may not be announced any time soon. It's still almost a given that it's coming, though Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2 is almost certainly not coming this year. There would be more concrete evidence, and almost assuredly even an announcement if that was the case, but there are more and more signs that there is work being done. It seems less like a question of "if," and more like "when?"

Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order is the "First" in the Franchise?

When trying to make the case for Fallen Order 2, the game's publisher is a big help. During a May conference call last year, EA CEO Andrew Wilson convinced many that he had spilled the beans, but it is possible they're right and he may have. Wilson said the game was the "first in an entirely new franchise," and the specific mention of "the first" led quite a few people in the Star Wars fandom to believe that, sooner or later, they were going to see a continuation of Cal Kestis' story.

Of course, it's always possible that Wilson was simply saying what he wanted to have happen. There's also the chance when he said "franchise" he meant that there would be other similar Star Wars stories that didn't focus on Cal specifically. When really taking a look at what Wilson said, there are a couple of different ways to take his words.

It's likely the caginess was intentional. If he wanted to let the cat out of the bag about another Fallen Order game, there were easier ways to go about it. There were also different ways he could have phrased his statement. Wilson absolutely could have just said "this is the first of a Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order franchise." The fact that he chose those words in particular should make fans wary before assuming that a sequel is indeed on the way.

If Wilson didn't make it explicit that Cal Kestis is making a comeback in Fallen Order 2, why does it seem likely that's exactly what's happening? There's the fact that the game was popular enough that people were reading into comments from people near the development team. There's also the fact that Star Wars games have made quite the resurgence over the last few years, similar to the movies, shows, comics, etc. It makes sense that EA and Respawn would want to seize on the IP while the surrounding media is just as popular.

Rumors of a Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2 Supporting Character

One other big reason why it appears that Fallen Order 2 is coming sooner or later is there's already talk about other characters that might make an appearance. Because of the time frame of the game, and the popularity of shows like The Mandalorian, one character in particular has been at the center of more than a few rumors. Ahsoka Tano, a central figure in the hugely popular Clone Wars animated series, is said to possibly be making an appearance in the next game.

Tano recently made a brief cameo in The Mandalorian this past season. That seemed to fuel the fire of fans who have long loved the Jedi. There's also the fact that the actor who voiced the animated version of Ahsoka Tano in Clone Wars explicitly voiced her interest in appearing in Fallen Order 2.

Ashley Eckstein, in particular, voiced her interest in bringing the character to the Star Wars franchise in May of last year. That's right about the same time that Wilson was potentially dropping hints that there would be a sequel to the game that introduced Cal Kestis to the world. There's also the little tidbit that Eckstein made these comments about wanting to be in Fallen Order 2 alongside the actor who played Cal, Cameron Monaghan.

Eckstein and Monaghan were sitting with some other guests during a Star Wars watchathon. While watching Star Wars Episode 3, viewers were able to ask questions. One of those questions was whether or not the actress had actually been contacted about playing Ahsoka Tano in Fallen Order 2. Back then, she said that she hadn't been contacted, but that answer can be taken with a grain of salt. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2 hadn't been mentioned yet when she was asked. Many, many things could have changed during that time.

The Inevitability Of A Fallen Order Sequel

It's true that, for now, Fallen Order 2 hasn't been officially announced. Fallen Order 2 could be in a similar Madden NFL 22 situation where that announcement could come any minute, as the signs and momentum have seemingly been building for over a year now. That being said, there's a very good chance that it's still several years away.

There is even a pretty obvious time period when an announcement of a game like this could be officially unveiled. Next month, both E3 and the Summer Game Fest kicks off. If the game is indeed in development, then it's certainly possible that Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2 gets announced at E3 this year, albeit it's likely not releasing any time soon.
