While there hasn't been an official announcement about Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2 being in development, most fans take it as pretty much inevitable. The first game took a unique Soulslike twist to its gameplay and paired it with an engaging single-player campaign that created a new set of characters that feel right at home alongside other Star Wars mainstays. With Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2 more likelier to be announced with each passing day, fans are already speculating about where the story of Cal Kestis will go. One important aspect of his story that's affected by the game's placement in the Star Wars timeline will be whether or not Cal will be able to complete his training and be considered a Jedi Master.

Cal Kestis was one of only a handful of Jedi who survived the purge of Order 66. After losing his master but escaping the onslaught, Cal went into hiding for years until his inevitable discovery by the Inquisitors. Over the events of the first game, Cal is largely left to reestablish his connection to the Force and continue his training alone. His relationship with former Jedi Cere Junda help him in some regards, but his development as a Jedi is largely alone or based on flashbacks to his original training. Luckily, the Star Wars canon has expanded the list of surviving Jedi to the point that it may be possible for Cal Kestis to realize his potential as a Jedi Master.

Can Cal Kestis Become a Jedi Master in Fallen Order 2?

Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order Next-Gen Release

Continuing his training and journey towards becoming a Jedi Master is likely to be a major theme of Fallen Order 2. Now that the holocron containing the list of all Force-sensitive children throughout the galaxy is safely out of the hands of the Empire, it's safe to assume that growing his power as a Jedi will be at the forefront of Cal's mind, but Fallen Order's placement in the timeline means that he would have a difficult time finding a master. Despite her valiant efforts against Vader, Cere's connection to the Force is still fractured at best. And based just on the abilities that players obtain throughout the original, Cal may outclass her as a Jedi already.

Fortunately, there are still options for Cal Kestis in terms of finding a more seasoned Jedi to help complete his training. While there's still a way to go towards mastery for Cal Kestis in Fallen Order 2, the young Jedi Knight has already proven his prowess by defeating multiple Inquisitors, a maddened former Jedi, and by virtue of even surviving an encounter with Darth Vader. So that being said, only a handful of Jedi could truly have much to offer in way of training for Kestis. This likely narrows down the list of Jedi who may appear in the sequel to help guide Cal.

Who Might Mentor Cal Kestis in Fallen Order 2?

Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order Trailer Fight

There are some obvious fan-favorites that are canonically still alive during the events following Fallen Order (barring a huge time jump forward) that could be great mentors to the brash Cal Kestis. Unfortunately, it's unlikely to see Cal cross paths with Obi-Wan Kenobi or Yoda as the two are both in self-imposed exile during the events. It would be interesting to see if Cal at least crosses paths with either of them as Tattooine is so heavily visited throughout the Star Wars canon. Another obvious candidate is Ahsoka Tano, although having left the Jedi Order after her false sentencing Ahsoka never truly became a master either. More likely, as it's something Fallen Order did well, the sequel will either add to the canon with new characters or dive deeper into Star Wars lore for a master to help Cal complete his training.

As hope will likely be a continuing theme in Fallen Order 2, it wouldn't be surprising to see the sequel either create a new survivor or pull from an already large well of Jedi who survived Order 66 to find a Jedi Master for Cal. While presumed dead, even its own story doesn't explicitly say that Cere Junda's master is dead so that could be another interesting avenue to explore. And given that Cal's conflict with the Inquisitors is likely to continue in the sequel, it's feasible that he may discover their list of Jedi and other Force-users who survived the purge and seek them out in order to further his training. Despite Order 66 there are actually plenty of Jedi for Cal to make contact with, but it's the how of the situation that will make or break Fallen Order 2.

One of the more interesting aspects of its story that will be exciting for fans in Fallen Order 2 is the ever-present threat of the Dark Side. Since Nightsister Merrin has made her way onto the crew in Fallen Order it's possible that Cal, proven to be more pragmatic than some Jedi, may even learn some aspects of the magick that Merrin wields. And for every Jedi that survived the purge, there seems to be a Sith or otherwise Dark Side warrior that could also cross paths with Cal Kestis. The similarities between their fighting styles would make an encounter with Darth Maul interesting to say the least. Given that it's likely, bearing in mind that it's purely conjecture, Cal Kestis will die at some point during his adventures in order to square Fallen Order with the rest of the canon, a dip into the Dark Side isn't out of the question.

Fans are already excited about where the story of Fallen Order 2 will take Cal Kestis, but how that story is executed will be crucial to the game's success. The first title impressed many by delivering a Star Wars experience on par with anything else the franchise has to offer. Continuing Cal's story will likely include him attempting to complete his Jedi training, but with a smaller pool of other Jedi to reach out to, that journey may be difficult. Luckily for Cal, and for fans, there are still interesting choices to look forward to while they wait for an official announcement about Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2.
