No matter how old somebody gets, the desire to play with toys never goes away. Sure, it might evolve into something different. Maybe the toys get bigger and turn into trucks or big boats. Or perhaps they get more intricate, becoming less about staging fight scenes between Luke Skywalker and Captain Kirk and more about finding just the right line of code to make Mario jump into the stratosphere. In the end, it's all still toys, and even expensive pieces of tech aren't exempt from that designation. It may or may not be the entire reason Star Wars lightsabers were created, after all.

Hasbro understands this trend, adding yet another entry into its expertly-crafted line of Black Series collectibles based on the Star Wars universe. This time, rather than bringing yet another classic character to life in plastic or giving Dave Filoni his own action figure, the company is adding a brand new lightsaber to its series of high-quality weapon replicas from the films. It's been a while since fans got to see a new hilt on the big screen, and thanks to 2019's The Rise of Skywalker, they got 2 in one movie.

The latest addition to Hasbro's Pulse Black Series of lightsaber replicas is none other than Leia Organa's (Carrie Fisher) own blade, seen briefly in the film (but still long enough to get its own entry in the official Lightsaber Collection book). Sporting a simple yet elegant gold and silver sheen, it reflects General Organa's own regal upbringing as a princess and practical nature as a military leader. Hasbro's replica appears to capture the look perfectly, at least if the digital rendering offered by the company is anything to go by.

Leia Organa was seen wielding this saber during a flashback sequence depicting a sparring match between her and her brother Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), as well as during the film's final scene where Rey buries the saber alongside Luke's on Tatooine. Glossing over the question of why she would want such an important part of herself buried in a place to which she has no personal connection, it's still an aesthetically pleasing piece of tech. So it's not surprising that people would want to get their hands on one to display over their work desks as motivation in their quests of typing out accounts receivable spreadsheets.

Hasbro has really been knocking it out of the park with its Black Series, at least in terms of its designs and character choices. Aside from lightsabers, they've also released recreations of rare niche Star Wars collectibles along with their regular offerings of the modern film characters, proving they're not just about cranking out whatever appears to be the most popular and profitable at the time. Granted, they definitely care about the money, as does every company, but at least they're being creative about it.

Maybe they'll keep doing deep dives into the lore and production of Star Wars for future releases. There's always going to be another George Lucas figure eventually, but how about a nice tall version of "off-camera Grand Moff Tarkin" complete with slippers?

The Leia Organa Force FX Elite Lightsaber is available for pre-order on Hasbro's official site for $264.99 USD and will release on October 1st, 2022.
