With the future of Star Wars video games in the hands of Lucasfilm Games, it seems brighter than ever. EA's Star Wars exclusivity contract will end in just a couple years, and when it does, there could be an explosion of games in the years after that. EA, Ubisoft, and more could be putting out, hopefully, high-quality games with unique takes on the franchise. Reportedly, Disney and Lucasfilm Games are being quite aggressive with getting new games in development, but that still means they're all at least a couple of years away.

While the full impact of Lucasfilm Games has yet to be felt and won't likely be until after EA's Star Wars contract ends, fans still have quite a few games on the horizon. Many are confirmed, while some are just rumored for now. Either way, it's looking to be a decent year with more on the horizon in 2022.

Confirmed List of Upcoming Star Wars Games

LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga Luke Darth Vader Characters

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is in development at Traveller's Tales but has faced a few delays due to the pandemic. In it, players are able to explore all 9 movies, with DLC based on surrounding properties. Players can expect more LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga news at Gamescom, and hopefully, fans will get a new release date. Given the timing, it's not impossible that it still releases this year, but fans should keep expectations in check until the showcase comes along.

Another Star Wars game said to release this year is Star Wars: Hunters. It's an arena combat game, something similar to Pokemon Unite. It is set after the fall of the Empire, with players taking on the role of bounty hunters, former Stormtroopers, and heroes of the rebellion, and a Wookiee warrior and female Sith also being shown. Unfortunately, the game has been silent since its announcement, but all signs still currently indicate a fall 2021 release.

A game known to be in development, though without a confirmed release date, is Ubisoft's open-world Star Wars game. Next to nothing is known about it except that Ubisoft Massive is developing the game after Disney was impressed with Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, indicating how early in development the game probably is.

  • LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga
  • Ubisoft's Open-World Star Wars Game
  • Star Wars: Hunters
  • Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2

Jedi: Fallen Order 2 was basically confirmed by EA at its recent earnings call, when it said it would continue to invest in the "Jedi: Fallen Order" franchise. But, given that EA has said it wouldn't announce any new Star Wars games until next year, the earliest fans could expect it is fall 2022, and that's still a bit of a stretch depending on several variables. Regardless, it'll hopefully be the strong ending EA needs to its contract, as competition among Star Wars games heat up.

Rumored List of Upcoming Star Wars Games

mandalorian

Gamers could throw a rock at a Star Wars social media page, especially official channels, and find players begging for games. This mass demand indubitably turns into rumors with no backing, such as the constantly referenced but denied-in-2020 Star Wars: Battlefront 3. In fact, the biggest Battlefront 3 rumor as of late was thoroughly debunked online. As such, with rumors, it's always better to look at the source.

For example, a Knights of the Old Republic remake is rumored to be in development at Aspyr. It's been in the rounds online and has been reiterated by many big names in the industry, though Aspyr itself has notably been quiet on the situation. It hasn't confirmed or denied this, giving many fans hope, but the silence around it now is also a double-edged sword. KOTOR remake or sequel rumors pop up every year, but hopefully, this one proves to be true.

One rumor, though less widespread, is that a Mandalorian game is in development. The leaker, Shpeshal_Ed, has proven reliable in the past and has accurately leaked things from multiple places in the industry, so it's solid compared to many things online. Fans still have to wait, as nothing else was indicated, but that's usually a good sign. Claiming to know too much is a telltale sign that the information is probably false.

  • Knights of the Old Republic Remake
  • The Mandalorian
  • Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 3

At the end of 2020, a new rumor emerged that EA was working on Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 3. This came down from Disney insider Daniel Richtman to his Patreon backers, but despite this, the claim seems rather dubious. While popular, the second game is over a decade old. It could be the first two games are remastered and The Force Unleashed 3 finally wraps and canonizes the story told so long ago, but of all the rumors here, this seems to be the most unlikely. Ergo, fans should take it with a hefty amount of salt.

Yet another rumor indicates that an upcoming Star Wars game would be exclusive to Microsoft platforms. Given the company's recent moves with acquisition and deals, a day one Star Wars game on Xbox Game Pass would make a lot of sense and would be a big win for the company. If it's one of the rumored games or a new game altogether remains to be seen. The latter makes the most sense, as out of the biggest rumors and confirmed games, only The Mandalorian would seemingly make sense in this context.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2 is reportedly in development.
