EA has confirmed that a new Star Wars game is on the way and it will likely be released on PS5 and Xbox Project Scarlett. The publisher has shared huge information about its plans for the new consoles, as it has also confirmed that Battlefield 6 will release on PS5 and Xbox Project Scarlett in the next few years.

In a call to investors, EA was asked about its plans for the Star Wars license as Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is going to be the last Star Wars film until 2022. Mike Hickey, an analyst at The Benchmark Company, would like to know if there will be any "Star Wars related IP games and development for console PC over the next couple of years." While there will be a lull in the series, EA won't rest and CFO Blake Jorgensen teased "some other Disney stuff" for fans to get excited about. Jorgensen then confirmed that there may be some "Star Wars stuff" that releases in the 2022 fiscal year or "maybe even earlier".

Jorgensen's answer has prompted fans to start asking if this means that a new Star Wars game is in development for PS5 and Xbox Project Scarlett. The 2022 fiscal year goes from April 2021 to March 2022 meaning that the new Star Wars game could release just after the Xbox Project Scarlett and PS5 launch date. If the game is launching in FY22, it seems highly unlikely that EA would only release the game on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, leaving out the potentially millions of players on the new consoles.

Nothing about the game has been confirmed yet, and Jorgensen said that there will be "more to come on that" when the company is ready. It will likely be a while until EA officially announces its next Star Wars game as it is now working on the launch of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. With an FY22 release date, the game probably isn't ready to be shown to the public. EA has upset fans before by revealing games early only to cancel them or wait months to show any gameplay, and it will be hoping to avoid that again.

The company can also use the time to look at the problems of its other Star Wars games, making sure that it doesn't repeat them with this new Star Wars title. Star Wars Battlefront 2 caused controversy with its loot boxes, which heavily affected its sales. EA will hope to bring Star Wars to the new consoles without such debates.
