Limited Run Games' second annual E3 keynote ended with a universe-spanning announcement, confirming the retail re-release of over a dozen classic Star Wars games via limited Standard and Collector's Editions. To start off its partnership with Lucasfilm Games with a bang, Limited Run Games revealed that it will launch Star Wars Bounty Hunter for PS4 and the 1991 Star Wars game for NES and GameBoy starting June 28. Other games, including Star Wars X-Wing, Star Wars Episode 1: Racer, and more to follow.

Regarding Star Wars Bounty Hunter and the 1991 version of Star Wars specifically, Limited Run Games will be offering both Standard and Collector's Editions for purchase in limited quantity. That's the name of the publisher, after all. All purchases will go through the official Limited Run Games website, as all of its retail re-releases do, starting June 28. Availability will be opened in two waves, with the first at 7:00 am PT and the second at 3:00 pm PT.

More Star Wars games are coming after these two titles are finished with their releases. As mentioned, over a dozen games were teased by Limited Run Games, though which platforms each will be made available for remains unannounced. For the time being, here are the Star Wars games announced sans the platforms they'll be available for:

  • Star Wars
  • The Empire Strikes Back
  • Star Wars X-Wing
  • Star Wars Rebel Assault 1 + 2
  • Star Wars Tie Fighter
  • Star Wars Dark Forces
  • Star Wars Shadow of the Empire
  • Star Wars Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight
  • Star Wars Episode 1: Racer
  • Star Wars Bounty Hunter
  • Star Wars Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast
  • Star Wars Racer Revenge
  • Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy

Expect more information on each specific Star Wars game as their launch approaches in the months to come.

Keep in mind that many, if not all of these games, are already available for purchase digitally on a variety of platforms. The Star Wars Complete Collection on Steam features more than half on its own, each for less than $20. Today's Limited Run Games' announcement is for retail editions only, specifically for collectors who'd love to have a copy on their shelf or fill out some of their retro NES, GameBoy, or otherwise collections.

Limited Run Games traditionally focuses on providing retail copies of indie games that are otherwise only available digitally, but every now and then it gets something special like this. Lucasfilm Games helping to make this happen is as astonishing as it is awesome, with gamers reaping the benefits.
