The Star Wars franchise is neccesarily one of the most massive narratives in cinematic history, with hundreds of characters, settings and concepts for fans to obsess over. With near-infinite complexity, there are endless unsolved mysteries in the galaxy, which each new work in the franchise could have a part in solving.

The hotly anticipated upcoming Star Wars series The Book of Boba Fett centers around the beloved former bounty hunter as he navigates the seedy underbelly of the franchise. The new series will be produced by Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni and Robert Rodriguez, the latter of which is also set to direct many of the episodes.

When Temuera Morrison made his first appearance as Boba Fett in season 2 of The Mandalorian, he laid to rest one of the most engaging unsolved mysteries of the franchise. Every fan knows Fett was presumed dead in the Sarlacc pit after the events of Return of the Jedi, but revived in the extended universe material like comics and novels. After Disney acquired the franchise, and all of the non-film material became non-canonical, Fett's fate became a question. Boba Fett dominated a substantial chunk of the last few episodes of The Mandalorian, and the post credit scene in which he kills Bib Fortuna and takes over the Hutts seat has left fans on pins and needles. Book of Boba Fett is set to explore the criminal element of Star Wars, but the series has a tendency to mix and match its plotlines, meaning anything could show up in this series.

The most obvious mysteries Book of Boba Fett can provide the answers to are the ones that concern the title character. Fans just learned that Fett is alive, but his survival leaves behind a number of questions of means. How did Boba Fett survive the Sarlacc pit? Who saved him? How did he recover from his injuries? Details of the trailer and his recent appearance suggest a few answers. When Boba Fett re-emerges, he is without his trademark armor or weapons, but instead armed with a large stick which is a traditional weapon of the Tusken Raiders.

The Raiders are mysterious people who have popped up in a variety of Star Wars projects, and the fact that they also live on Tattooine makes them a reasonable answer to who saved Fett. A moment of the trailer also sees Fett near something some fans have speculated might be a Bacta tank, which could've healed his wounds. Its almost obvious that Book of Boba Fett will offer answers to these questions.

Boba Fett is far from the only character in Star Wars who has been presumed dead for years, but fans still maintain might have survived. Mace Windu, portrayed by Samuel L. Jackson, was presumed dead after Palpatine sent him plummeting out of a high window, but Jedi have genuinely survived worse. Jackson and George Lucas have opined that the Jedi master survived his brush with death, and a substantial contingent of fans very much agree. Windu has not appeared in the series since his death, but a severed hand and a distant fall is far from a confirmed kill when a Jedi Master is on the line.

In canon, about 28 years have passed between Revenge of the Sith and Book of Boba Fett. It's entirely possible that Windu could've been living in solitude like Obi-Wan or Yoda for all those years. This being the first Star Wars project fully about Boba Fett could bring Windu into the center, as a nemesis figure for the bounty hunter. Windu killed Fett's father in front of him, leading him to his life of violence. Disney loves to bring characters back out of nowhere to shock and delight long-term fans, and Mace Windu would be a fun pull.

The Book of Boba Fett takes place five years after the events of the original trilogy and twenty-five years before the events of the sequel trilogy. That spot in the timeline, which is also home to The Mandalorian and the many upcoming spinoffs, allows the new series to answer questions about the recently concluded sequel trilogy. Perhaps one of the biggest unanswered questions of The Force Awakens comes very early in the film.

When Rey leaves Jakku, she is taken by Han Solo to see Maz Kanata, a mysterious cantina owner and collector of oddities. Her prize possession is a familiar lightsaber, the one handed down from Anakin to Luke Skywalker. The canon clearly explains that it isn't out of character for Maz to gather rare and valuable items, but how she acquired this very plot-important item remains a mystery. Given Book of Boba Fett's place in the timeline, this could be a good place to put this minor mystery to rest.

The Book of Boba Fett is hotly anticipated, both for its place in the larger narrative and for the chance to finally see a full story about the fan-favorite bounty hunter. Fans will learn all the secrets the series' holds when it premieres December 29th.
