There’s no doubt one of the mostly highly anticipated upcoming games coming in 2015 is EA’s Star Wars: Battlefront. Gamers have been requesting the next installment in the series since Star Wars: Battlefront II released in 2005.
Since DICE first announced the rebooted Star Wars: Battlefront a couple years ago, Star Wars fans have been clamoring for more information. EA and DICE, however, have been fairly closed-lip about the game, providing only a few sporadic details. That will change on April 17 when DICE releases the first official reveal trailer for the game.
While most of us wait patiently for that day to arrive, Star Wars fans who live in Vancouver, Canada or San Francisco, California will have a special opportunity to see the game in action, and even play it. On Friday, April 10th, EA will be opening its doors for the public to playtest the game.
According to the EA Canada Playtesters Facebook page, the publisher is planning three to four hour play sessions with various times available for gamers to get a taste of the new Star Wars: Battlefront.
EA has not yet shared any information about what maps or game types these playtesters will experience, or how long each person will get to play. But those who are interested should sign up quickly. We doubt there will be a ton of spots, so sign up quickly before they run out.
Hopefully this playtesting session won’t be the last time gamers get a chance to try the game before it releases this holiday season. We wouldn’t surprised to see EA and DICE release an open beta closer to release, as they’ve done with their Battlefield games. If their past timeline is any gauge, we should see a beta sometime in September or October – if they plan on offering one.
Although we haven’t heard much about the game up to this point, we’re sure to get plenty of information in the coming months, starting with the Star Wars Celebration in just a few weeks’ time. We will almost certainly receive additional information at this year’s E3, and with no new Battlefield games set to release in the immediate future, EA and DICE are set to focus on Star Wars: Battlefront all the way to release.
What do you think about EA’s plan to playtest Star Wars: Battlefront this month? Have you signed up to participate? Share your thoughts in the comments.
