Star Wars Battlefront’s Outer Rim DLC Adds Greedo and Nien Nunb

By | 8 months ago

DICE and Electronic Arts announce the inclusion of Greedo and Nien Nunb, along with additional content for Star Wars Battlefront‘s Outer Rim expansion pack.

Hot on the heels of Star Wars Battlefront‘s free February update, developer DICE and publisher Electronic Arts have released some specifics for its first bout of paid DLC called Outer Rim. Although developers didn’t provide an exact release date beyond its availability sometime this month, the companies did confirm the existence of Greedo and Nien Nunb as two new playable heroes, a never-before-included mode, a couple of different maps, as well as fresh weapons and Star Cards.

While the addition of Greedo and Nien Nunb is interesting to say the least, the team behind Star Wars Battlefront didn’t list the characters’ abilities or move sets. As far as the new mode goes, though, it’s called Extraction, and is described as a mission requiring Rebel forces to extract a valuable shipment of resources from the Outer Rim, and bring the loot to their transport ship before a timer runs out or Empire troops stop them in the process.

As seen in a couple of stills found below, fans should also expect Star Wars Battlefront‘s two new maps in the Outer Rim DLC to be set on Sullust, which takes place in a smelting factory, while the other takes place on Tattooine around Jabba the Hutt’s throne room. The aforementioned weapons (presumably carried by Nunb and Greedo in the images), and the Star Cards to be included are as follows:

  • Relby V-10 rifle
  • DT-12 blaster pistol
  • Scatter Gun (Star Card)
  • Dioxis Grenade (Star Card)
  • Adrenaline Stim (Star Card)

As previously detailed with Star Wars Battlefront‘s free January update, the Outer Rim DLC, along with the other forthcoming paid add-ons labeled Bespin (available Summer 2016), Death Star (available Fall 2016), and an untitled fourth expansion (available sometime in 2017) can be obtained in the game’s Season Pass altogether for $50. However, since neither DICE nor Electronic Arts have revealed an official price for the DLC packs being purchasable separately, fans can only assume at this point that an à la carte option will be announced in due time. Bearing that in mind, each expansion will probably end up being at least $12.50 apiece, if not more in order to equate to the price of the Season Pass.

On the surface, Star Wars Battlefront‘s Outer Rim DLC doesn’t look like much when compared to the free updates provided in the last two months, so some players may not want to go all-in on a Season Pass just yet without some more concrete details. A clearer plan for longevity is key in order to maintain its fan-base, and to gain new gamers in the process. Of course, developers laying out a road map with the expansion packs is certainly helpful, but there are still a few pot holes that need to be filled in before buying the ticket and taking the ride.

What do you think about everything that’s been listed so far for Star Wars Battlefront‘s Outer Rim DLC? Is it enticing enough for you to jump on board with the game’s Season Pass, will you wait for individual pricing options, or are you totally uninterested?
