‘Star Wars Battlefront’ Gameplay Will Finally Be Shown at E3

By | 1 year ago

When Star Wars Battlefront was unveiled at the 2015 Celebration convention last month, fans were excited to see their first real glimpse of what the game will have to offer. Now, we’ve got confirmation that there will be plenty more to see come E3.

Gameplay was shown to press behind closed doors at Celebration, but E3 is set to be the first time that in-game footage will be presented for all to see. It’s been a decade since the last console installment of the series, and fans will no doubt be desperate to see for themselves whether this sequel is shaping up to be a worthy successor.

DICE certainly seems to be happy with the work that’s being done. Design director Niklas Fegraeus posted an open letter on the studio’s website yesterday, confirming plans to showcase the game at E3. Fegraeus described reaction to the debut trailer as “amazing,” going on to say that “this is the reason we do what we do.”

Fegraeus also suggests that we might see some more big changes made to the series as we know it. He openly refers to the new game as a reboot rather than a straight sequel, which suggests that there might be some unexpected changes to gameplay mechanics that we’re not wholly aware of.

Star Wars Battlefront Sales Estimates 2

However, there’s little reason to panic about these tweaks just yet. Both for better and for worse, the multiplayer shooter landscape has changed dramatically in the ten years since Battlefront II released. If the new game wasn’t something of a departure, there would be plenty of disappointed fans.

An HD remaster of Battlefront II might sound good to some, but if the new Battlefront is going to live up to EA’s sales forecasts, it’s going to have to be able to compete with the biggest releases of 2015. That means it needs to be a thoroughly modern product in its own right.

There’s a lot riding on this game for DICE, EA, and even the franchise itself. Star Wars is being rehabilitated after the prequel years left a lot of devotees cold. With The Force Awakens showing a lot of promise in early trailers, it’s important that tie-in content like Battlefront helps usher in a new era for the hugely popular property.

In a month’s time, we’ll finally be able to see the fruits of DICE’s labor. Here’s hoping that fans have plenty to look forward to once they’ve seen the game in action.

Star Wars Battlefront will release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on November 17, 2015.
