Ever since the new Star Wars Battlefront was revealed via a teaser trailer a couple of years ago at E3, fans have been patiently awaiting the next installment in the long dormant franchise. EA and DICE have been working on the title for years now, and are wisely releasing it the month before the theatrical debut of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, in order to capitalize on the massive Star Wars hype that is sure to dominate the last couple of months of 2015.

To even better take advantage of the fanfare surrounding the next film in the storied Star Wars saga, DLC based on the film will release for Star Wars Battlefront a couple of weeks before the movie hits the big screen. This DLC is known as The Battle of Jakku, and will detail a battle that sets up some events in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Now EA has revealed two new concept art images for The Battle of Jakku DLC, which offer an idea of what the DLC pack may entail.

Check out the two brand new concept images for the Star Wars Battlefront below, which were initially shown at the D23 Expo last week for those that were in attendance, in all their glory:

Along with these images, EA has offered more of an explanation as to the origins behind the planet Jakku, and its role in the Star Wars universe. First off, The Battle of Jakku DLC for Star Wars Battlefront will depict a battle between Imperial troops and Rebel soldiers in the aftermath of the Battle of Endor from Return of the Jedi.

Set 29 years before Jakku's appearance in The Force Awakens, this DLC will explain how the massive Star Destroyer seen in the film's trailers came to be a destroyed husk in the middle of the desert. It will offer standard Star Wars Battlefront gameplay, catering both to players that want to stay grounded, and to those that want to battle it out in the skies. As explained by DICE concept artist Anton Grandert:

"We wanted to portray a battle completely surrounding you, in every direction. Debris is falling from the sky, telling the story of battles above. On the surface of the planet you can see ground troops as well as X-wings, all taking part of the fight."

In any case, if the actual DLC looks even a fraction as good as the concept art, then it'll be a fine addition to the maps that come on the disc. We're now looking forward to exploring Jakku in Star Wars Battlefront even more than ever before. And on that note, those that want the earliest access to The Battle of Jakku should pre-order the game, as they will get it a week earlier than everyone else.

What do you think of the Battle of Jakku DLC? Will you be pre-ordering Star Wars Battlefront so that you can try out it out early?

Star Wars Battlefront is due for release on November 17th, 2015, for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The Battle of Jakku DLC, based on Star Wars: The Force Awakens, will be available on December 1st for those that pre-order the game, and December 8th for everyone else, as a completely free download.
