Aside from its lack of a single-player campaign, one of the major complaints fans had about the 2015 precursor to Star Wars Battlefront 2 was related to its dearth of full-fledged space battles, which was somewhat addressed by the release of the game's Death Star DLC, but even that didn't completely satiate players desire for all-out intergalactic warfare. Thankfully, though, it seems as if DICE and Electronic Arts are prepared to give fans of the forthcoming science fiction shooter what they want, as the official website for the forthcoming sequel has confirmed that it will indeed have space battles.

As described on Star Wars Battlefront 2's website, players ought to anticipate "spectacular space battle scenarios," as gameplay should offer the ability to "weave between asteroids, fly across Imperial Dock Yards," and even destroy gigantic capital ships. Iconic spacecraft from the film franchise will be available to pilot, as ships like the Millennium Falcon and Luke Skywalker’s X-wing will be capable of entering outer space dogfights that can host up to 24 players in total.

Other than the cinematic space dogfights depicted in the official reveal trailer for Star Wars Battlefront 2 that was released during this year's Star Wars Celebration, no actual gameplay has been put out for the public to see thus far. While this is surely disappointing to some fans of the franchise who were looking forward to getting a gander at a display of playable combat, it's quite likely that DICE and Electronic Arts are saving such footage for its showcase at E3 2017 in June.

Upon launch, 2015's Battlefront received middling to favorable reviews, but missed out on completely wowing fans and critics alike due to its scarcity of content that totally projected the full Star

Wars experience, with modes missing much-desired gameplay aspects like space battles. With this being the case, it seems as if DICE and Electronic Arts have definitely kept its ear to the ground to learn what gamers want out of the sequel.

Taking all of this into consideration, the inclusion of space battles in Star Wars Battlefront 2 ought to excite fans. With any luck, DICE and Electronic Arts will not only have a variety of different spacecraft for players to pilot, but will also incorporate engaging mechanics so as to fully immerse fans in the dogfights.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 is slated to release on November 17, 2017 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
