For EA, 2017 largely ended on a sour note as one of its biggest titles of the year, Star Wars Battlefront 2, launched into a maelstrom of controversy. Instead of riding on a wave of hype thanks to the latest Star Wars film, the game was picked apart over its stingy economy and predatory microtransaction system. While player progression was another deeply flawed aspect being tied into the loot box system, DICE is finally ready to reveal how it plans to overhaul the system entirely.

With the first official season of Star Wars Battlefront 2 now at an end, DICE is providing fans with a little insight into what's next for the shooter. The biggest change for many comes to the progression system, which has been driven by feedback and incorporates many things that players have been asking for. DICE isn't providing any specifics at the moment, but the studio is planning on sharing what exactly is changing sometime later in March. Untangling the loot box system from how players and characters gain levels will likely be a big focus of this update.

In addition to a completely overhauled progression system, a new, limited time mode called Jetpack Cargo is arriving for free in February. Jetpack Cargo consists of two teams of eight players equipped with jetpacks competing with each other in a fast-paced and frantic match. The studio is also hinting at a brand new season starting up soon, which also incorporates a lot of feedback the team has received. Like the rest of the update, details are coming soon.

Over the past month, players have taken part in the first season, which added new content inspired by The Last Jedi. With season 1 now over, the post also gave fans statistics and a bit of insight into player behavior over the past month. As it turns out, most players seem to favor the First Order as 58% of players opted to side with Captain Phasma to only 42% for Finn and the Resistance. Combined, players managed to complete 10 million quests for both factions and 156 million matches were played on the new maps of Crait and D'Qar.
