When asked why Star Wars Battlefront 2 opted to link progression to microtransactions instead of cosmetics, EA’s CFO Blake Jorgensen brought up the notion of a “Pink Darth Vader” skin, claiming it would violate canon and likely irritate fans. It seems he may have been mistaken, as a modder named Destauch just released a mod for the game that coats the dark lord in rosy hues.

In the meantime, Blake Jorgensen attempted to quell some of the backlash by explaining EA’s reasoning for foregoing the oft-used practice of making the microtransactions purely cosmetic in Star Wars Battlefront 2. His statement at the time was, “The one thing we're very focused on and [Lucasfilm are] extremely focused on is not violating the canon of Star Wars. Darth Vader in white probably doesn't make sense, versus in black. Not to mention you probably don't want Darth Vader in pink. No offense to pink, but I don't think that's right in the canon.”

However, the last month has seen the creation of the “Frosty Mod Manager," and with it, a Star Wars Battlefront 2 hub on the popular modding site Nexus Mods. Early mods included a jacketless outfit for Finn and the removal of lens flares. With the possibility of character reskins becoming available, perhaps it was only a matter of time before someone took Jorgensen’s statement and made it a reality.

In the description for the “Darth Vader in Pink” mod, Destauch also states “White Darth Vader COMING SOON," and has since uploaded a “Murica Vader” skin that decks Darth out in patriotic fashion. Of course, these mods are not currently available on the console versions of the game, but owners of the game on PC may want to keep an eye on the Star Wars Battlefront 2 nexus in the coming months; who knows what paint job Vader will get next?

Star Wars Battlefront II is out now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
