The Star Wars Battlefront 2 alpha got underway last week, and as a result a preview build of the game is now out in the wild. Already, fans have picked through every last line of code and found some interesting information about this hotly anticipated FPS sequel.

In-keeping with the series' tried-and-tested gameplay, Star Wars Battlefront 2 will give players access to powerful hero characters that can turn the tide of any skirmish. By inspecting the source code of the game's alpha build, one Reddit user has been able to share some details of sequel's roster of heroes.

We already knew that many of these characters were set to be included, either from their presence in 2015's Star Wars Battlefront, or from the footage we've seen over the past few months. However, there are one or two surprises — here's the full list, as it stands:

  • Han Solo
  • Luke Skywalker
  • Leia Organa
  • Darth Vader
  • Chewbacca
  • Emperor Palpatine
  • Boba Fett
  • Lando Calrissian
  • Bossk
  • Yoda
  • General Grievous
  • Darth Maul
  • Rey
  • Kylo Ren
  • Captain Phasma
  • Iden Versio

The hero roster really demonstrates DICE's intention to cover the extended Star Wars universe, whereas the previous game focused on the original trilogy. The studio is also adding its own new ideas to the canon — the name Iden Versio might be unfamiliar, but she's the brand new protagonist of the game's campaign mode.

Fans of the prequel era will be pleased to see General Grievous make the cut. He's become a rather popular character, despite only appearing in Revenge of the Sith and various animated spin-offs, and his multi-lightsaber fighting style should set him apart from other heroes.

It's perhaps noteworthy that Jango Fett doesn't appear on the list, despite a character model for the Mandalorian reportedly having been uncovered. As it turns out, that model seems to have been mislabelled, so the presence of the elder Fett remains up in the air.

That being said, we know that Finn from The Force Awakens is set to be a playable hero in Battlefront 2, and he doesn't appear on this list either. It's entirely possible that some DLC characters are still in the early stages of development, which could be the case with Jango — but we're sure to learn more about the game's array of playable characters over the coming weeks and months.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 launches for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on November 17, 2017.
