Another E3, another pre-event leak. Today, gameplay footage of Star Wars Battlefront 2 leaked online, hours before EA’s press conference is set to kick off later in the afternoon.
The game is slated for a full reveal during EA Play, but YouTube user NukemDukem jumped the gun, uploading a 12-minute video that shows off Star Wars Battlefront 2 big bad Darth Maul, the fearsome Boba Fett, and the heroic Rey all in third-person perspective. But the main focus on the footage is an epic battle against the red-faced Sith Lord in Naboo Palace.
At the start of the video, a reference is made to EA Play early access. Throughout, it shows a “Sponsored by EA” image, which may suggest that the company distributed footage to streamers, video game content creators (such as YouTubers and journalists), and online influencers to test out before E3 opened its doors. This may be in efforts to prepare these individuals to whip up material to publish as soon as an official reveal is made. It also indicates that the footage likely isn’t stolen; rather, it was released at an inappropriate time.
Since initial upload, the original video has been removed from YouTube on a copyright claim brought forth by EA. However, Vimeo user Mar Tiger snagged the footage and re-uploaded it on the sister streaming site. Admittedly, the footage isn’t the clearest, but it definitely offers an up-close-and-personal look at multiplayer battle, character options, the Naboo map, and combat in Star Wars Battlefront 2. Check it out above.
This leak comes shortly after an announcement EA made regarding Battlefront 2‘s multiplayer beta, which is set to take place this fall on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Concrete start and end dates for the beta period have yet to be announced by EA, but the company has previously stated that any players who have already pre-ordered or are planning to pre-order Battlefront 2 will gain entry to the beta “early.” Additionally, these ahead-of-time purchases give “instant access” to an exclusive “upgraded Epic Lightsaber Mystery Star Card for Yoda.”
EA is expected to push the Star Wars Battlefront 2 multiplayer hype up to to the highest degree between now and the time the title actually releases. The first (likely scream-inducing) reveal will reportedly include a massive 40-player battle. After so many months of teases and tiny glimpses of what Battlefront 2 has to offer on the combat front, it will certainly be satisfying and exciting to see what developer DICE has tweaked in the game-making process. But mostly, it will give fans a chance to suss out whether the title is as shimmering and shiny as they’ve hoped it will be.
Fans will learn plenty more about Star Wars Battlefront 2 — and see razor-sharp footage of the game — during the EA Play event today, June 10, beginning at 12PM PT / 3PM ET. EA is also anticipated to show off FIFA 18, NBA Live 18, Madden 18, and Need for Speed: Payback. And hopefully, both DICE and EA will give some attention to Battlefront 2‘s single-player campaign as well.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 is slated to release on November 17, 2017 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
