Today, DICE and Electronic Arts released a brand new video featuring Star Wars Battlefront 2 developers Steve Blank, a creative executive at Lucas film, and EA Motive game director, Mark Thompson, discussing the narrative elements surrounding the science fiction shooter's main character, Commander Iden Versio. Although the clip is short, it gives fans of the franchise an interesting insight into how Lucasfilm's writers teamed up with DICE and Motive to help bring the game's story to life.

As seen below in DICE and EA's "The Story of an Imperial Soldier" video, the clip begins with the mentioning of Motive's pitch to Lucasfilm involving the former company's desire to do a story centered around the point of view of a soldier within the Empire so as to humanize them and not have them simply be a "faceless Stormtrooper who's part of a legion who all believe in the same thing uniformly." According to Thompson, Star Wars Battlefront 2's Versio is the "perfect candidate" to reflect these characteristics, as she has a vested interest in believing in "the good of the Empire," as she was raised in the Imperial environment from birth.

Of course, with the above video being so brief, there isn't much in the way of fresh information. Nevertheless, it is reiterated that campaign mode's story in Star Wars Battlefront 2 is set to span a total of 30 years from the events following the destruction of the Death Star in the film Episode 6 – Return of the Jedi all the way up to the most recently released movie in the franchise Episode 7 – The Force Awakens.

It's obvious that Star Wars Battlefront 2's developers don't want the game's single-player experience to come off as something that has been created in a slapdash manner just to appease fans who were upset by 2015's Battlefront lack of the feature. As it so happens, Motive Studios Content Producer Paola Jouyaux recently explained that the story mode isn't simply going to be an afterthought, as the company's team has "tremendous experience making action movie-based narratives."

Taking all of this into consideration, it seems like Star Wars Battlefront 2's developers are attempting to make the campaign a success, especially since it was recently revealed that Spec Ops: The Line writer Walt Williams is working on the script with Mitch Dyer to tackle the plot's broad scope. So, with E3 2017 not far off from now, fans will hopefully get an even better idea as to how the game's developers intend to construct a cohesive and compelling narrative.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 is slated to release on November 17, 2017 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
