The one thing that Star Wars Battlefront 2 players have been asking the most might just be present in the game already, as a dataminer uncovers a hidden character customization menu in the new shooter. The hidden content will allow players to change the appearance of their character in-game, providing some well-needed cosmetic equips and possibly altering the title's controversial loot box system for the better.

In a new video posted by Star Wars Battlefront 2 dataminer Uninspired Zebra, it's possible to see the game's currently-inaccessible menu screens that allow characters to switch between unlocked cosmetic items. As of right now, there are no such items in the game, but this new leak might reveal that customization options will be arriving in the near future.

Although EA has shown very little interest in cosmetic items, there's no denying that these special skins would be perfect for implementing into loot boxes, as they provide no actual advantage to players in-game. Stormtroopers already have a range of existing canon appearances for the publisher to choose from and, as shown in Uninspired Zebra's video footage, Rebels come in all shapes and sizes.

Fan speculation suggests that the customization options will come hand-in-hand with the game's The Last Jedi DLC pack that is set to launch next week for Star Wars Battlefront 2. The upcoming content recently had a significant gameplay leak, revealing Captain Phasma in action, alongside some secret weapon additions. Should EA decide to implement its loot box system once more, replacing the pay-to-win Star Cards with cosmetic drops, the Battlefront 2 controversy could finally see an acceptable resolution in the eyes of the Star Wars fan-base.

These new cosmetic options also bring with them the possibility of new looks for iconic heroes and villains. Although EA has previously scoffed at the idea of a pink Darth Vader, the company did mention the possibility of bringing new lightsaber colors to the game in the future. Going one step further, adding new hero skins such as an Anakin Skywalker look for Darth Vader or a Tatooine-era Luke Skywalker would likely see the company's loot box sales increasing without generating any more anger from the title's online community.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 is out now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
