Several days ago, the release of an unsanctioned glimpse at a loadout screenshot and an incredibly brief piece of gameplay for Star Wars Battlefront 2 began circulating online, with many poring over the two assets to determine what kind of playable materials the forthcoming sequel will have. Now, it looks like fans of the science fiction shooter franchise will have even more details to parse through, for it appears as though a leaked video of what looks to be a behind-the-scenes gameplay feature for the title has leaked online, showing off a companion droid and its abilities, as well as Emperor Palpatine's Sentinel.

As seen in the short clip below from the YouTube channel Unreal SjS, the video opens up by showing motion capture footage of Emperor Palpatine's face speaking through his Sentinel, which is a modified robot that carries prerecorded messages from those who have died to the living. After that, Star Wars Battlefront 2 fans are given a look at some of the abilities of protagonist Iden Versio's companion droid, which includes hacking a door and shocking Rebel Alliance soldiers into submission.

In addition to Emperor Palpatine's Sentinel and Iden Versio's droid, Star Wars Battlefront 2 fans are given a quick look at a rocky, desert planet that has the potential to be either Tatooine or even Jakku, with the protagonist perambulating while using a front-covering shield of some kind. Plus, at the the end of the video, Iden is shown escaping onto a ship with other Stormtroopers, and it's obviously an early version of the game, as there are a sparse amount of textures applied to the characters.

Although these are just a few fleeting details, they show promise and point to DICE, Motive, and Criterion's intentions to give Star Wars Battlefront 2 fans a sumptuous experience with the sequel's campaign. This will be especially true if these features are all just the tip of the iceberg. After all, one of the main complaints fans had regarding the 2015 Battlefront release was its complete lack of a single-player.

Bearing this in mind, Star Wars Battlefront 2's developers need to deliver a story mode with a memorable and meaningful plot alongside engaging gameplay, and not just throw it together as an afterthought in the interest of placating fans. The game's publisher, Electronic Arts, expects to ship 14 million copies in its first five months, so let's hope that's due to the company's confidence in the potent synergy between the title's campaign and multiplayer, and not just a reliance on the popularity of the Star Wars brand.

Star Wars Battlefront is set to release on November 17, 2017 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
