As many fans expected, Star Wars Battlefront 2 was a major focus for EA during its newly annual EA Plays event, essentially serving as the final segment to the event. In addition to a brand new trailer which showed off more compelling single player campaign gameplay, players got their first look at the multiplayer and more news including some of DICE's post launch plans as well.

In addition to the first look at multiplayer gameplay for Star Wars Battlefront 2, DICE also confirmed that downloadable content would be released periodically into what the studio is calling post-launch seasons. While the specifics of what players can expect wasn't revealed, players received a bit of good news as all new post-launch maps will be free for all Battlefront 2 players and no longer locked behind a paywall.

While the post-launch plans for the game were pretty limited considering that the title is still months from release, John Boyega was also on hand during the Battlefront 2 segment to announce that his character, Finn, would be included as a new hero in the first season of content.

This shift in philosophy is a new one for DICE as the studio has traditionally offered post launch content either for a set standalone price or as part of a season pass. Star Wars Battlefront originally offered four expansions each individually priced at $14.99 or as part of a season pass at $49.99. While many opted in to this arrangement, having paid expansions ultimately hurt the title, as the player base became divided by those with the content and those without. At the very least, keeping the maps free for all will certainly go a long way in keeping the player base united.
