On paper, Star Wars Battlefront 2 sounds like a major step forward for the franchise, adding a slew of features fans wanted to see in the 2015 entry, including space battles and a single player campaign. The campaign sounds especially exciting, as it will focus on a brand new character to Star Wars lore, but it will also give fans a chance to play as some of the franchise's most iconic heroes, like Luke Skywalker.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 will have a linear campaign that tells the story of Iden Verios over the course of 30 years, from the beginning of Return of the Jedi all the way to The Force Awakens. Even so, players will have the opportunity to take control of other characters during the campaign as well, including the previously mentioned Luke Skywalker, Kylo Ren, and a Storm Trooper. It's possible that there areeven more playable characters in the campaign, but DICE is keeping them under wraps for now.

As for who these other playable characters can be, the options are really limitless. Han Solo is a distinct possibility, considering his involvement with the Rebellion during and after the events of Return of the Jedi. Princess Leia would be another obvious pick. Many other characters come to mind, but regardless of the different playable characters in Star Wars Battlefront 2, the campaign will still be about Iden Verios more than anyone else.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 Campaign Will Let You Play as Luke Skywalker - Luke Skywalker

This means that DICE won't be taking the approach it did with Battlefield 1, where the campaign was segmented short stories that each focused on a different character in a different part of World War I. This approach was met with widespread acclaim from critics, as it allowed DICE to tell more focused stories than the nonsensical globe-trotting adventures many FPS games devolve into, so hopefully it can avoid those pitfalls with Star Wars Battlefront 2's more traditional, linear narrative.

From what we've seen of the campaign so far, it has an interesting premise and has potential to expand the Star Wars universe in a meaningful way. Since Iden Verios is the leader of the Empire's special forces unit called the Inferno Squad, it will give fans a look at how Empire loyalists reacted following the destruction of the second Death Star. It should also shed light on the exploits of Luke Skywalker in the events between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens.

Star Wars Battlefront 2's single player campaign sounds like it will deliver the goods for fans of the franchise, but it's worth noting that we haven't seen any gameplay footage of it yet. From a story perspective, Star Wars Battlefront 2 seems like it will be rather interesting thanks to the introduction of Iden Verios and the return of fan favorite characters like Luke Skywalker, so hopefully the gameplay is able to live up to expectations.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 will launch on November 17th for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
