Now that DICE and Electronic Arts have officially put out the reveal trailer for the forthcoming science fiction shooter Star Wars Battlefront 2, the companies are prepared to begin unpacking some of the details that are going to be included in the game's campaign mode. Although the trailer itself didn't provide much concrete information about the title's single player features beyond the reveal of what its protagonist looks like and where the story will fit within the film franchise's timeline, the game's official website has filled in some of the plot details about what's to come in its solo mode.

As explained on Star Wars Battlefront 2's official website, the shooter's single player will put fans in the boots of Iden Versio, commander of Inferno Squad, which is an Imperial special forces unit that specializes in both ground and space combat. Apparently, the story is set to be rather in-depth, as it spans the length 0f 30 years, and also includes some of the science fiction series' most recognizable characters–Luke Skywalker was featured in the first trailer, for instance–in a tale of "revenge, betrayal, and redemption."

As far as Star Wars Battlefront 2's placement in the series' history is concerned, as evidenced in the reveal trailer, the game's story mode begins shortly thereafter the destruction of the second Death Star at the end of the movie Star Wars: Episode 6 – Return of the Jedi. Upon witnessing the massive space-faring battle station explode while on the forest moon of Endor, Versio proclaims to the Inferno Squad that its primary mission is to avenge Emperor Palpatine.

While the cinematic materials shown off in the first official Star Wars Battlefront 2 trailer are definitely exciting, as they help to set up the story of the campaign mode, and give a glimpse of what's to come with the title's multiplayer aspects, many fans are likely to be disappointed by the fact that there was no actual gameplay revealed. With this being the case, it's quite likely that DICE and Electronic Arts are saving such materials for its presence at E3 2017 in June.

Taking all of this into consideration, the very fact that Star Wars Battlefront 2 is going to have a single player mode ought to be thrilling news to the franchise's fans, for the title's immediate precursor eschewed a solo mode at launch altogether. Thankfully, though, DICE and Electronic Arts seem to have paid attention to fans and critics' complaints over 2015's lack of the feature, and are sure to implement a solid, if not engaging story for the sequel's campaign.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 is set to launch on November 17, 2017 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
