Star Wars Battlefront is still months away, but it's never too early to get excited for a Star Wars event. The in-engine rendered trailer confirmed that the game is going to be gorgeous and now gamers are eagerly awaiting a closer look at how the game will look and feel during gameplay. We may not get that kind of reveal until E3 2015, but luckily we have a stellar Arma 3 mod to hold us over for now.

The Arma franchise is well-known for having an incredibly resourceful community of modders (take this Arma 3 T-rex mod, for example). In the case of DayZ, the mod arguably became even more successful and well-known than the original game.

Although DayZ is the most famous, zombie survival is certainly not the only brand of Arma mod. A mod that was being developed by McRuppertle last year attempted to bring some iconic characters and vehicles from a galaxy far, far away to the world of Arma 3.

The mod has since been abandoned, but the video shows the creator exploring their partially finished creation. Surprisingly, AT-ATs and Stormtroopers seem right at home walking around the sandbox world of Arma. The video gives a great preview of what a giant open-sandbox strategy shooter might be like with the Star Wars assets.

If you've never seen an AT-AT shoot down a helicopter before, this this mod preview is a must watch. The demo is captured in third-person view of a playable Stormtrooper. The AT-AT walker may not be as perfectly-rendered as it will in Battlefront this fall, but it does look amazing.

The sound effects are also spot on in the demo. Sound is incredibly important when trying to create the feel of Star Wars and hearing the familiar blaster sounds as the Stormtrooper fires at a vehicle in the distance definitely makes this feel more authentic.

Although mods have been causing a lot of drama for Steam users in the last week, it looks like the chaos is starting to die down. Aside from the extra power available in PC gaming rigs, the freedom offered by mods has always been one of the main reasons to game on PC rather than a console, so it makes sense that the community is so nervous about the idea of throwing a price tag on the fan-created game variations.

What do you think of the Star Wars Arma 3 mod? Would you be interested in an open-world strategic Star Wars shooter? Let us know in the comments.

Arma 3 is currently available for PC. Star Wars Battlefront is set to release on November 17, 2015 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
