It's always something special to see an underdog finally get some proper recognition. Fans of Star Wars: The Clone Wars were unsure about the character of Ahsoka Tano at first, but as the series went on, she grew into one of the most popular characters among diehards. Still, she didn't really get much exposure even then until her big appearance in The Mandalorian, played by Rosario Dawson. Now, with her own Star Wars spinoff in the works, it seems like things are finally going her way, and she's got some company.

Things are starting to move along for the highly-anticipated upcoming Star Wars: Ahsoka series and a new casting announcement is only the latest in juicy gossip surrounding the Disney Plus limited series. While it's not set to debut for some time, Star Wars fans are still excited to see one of their favorite characters as the lead in her own show. But naturally, as good an actress as Dawson is, not many stars can carry an entire show by themselves. So it was only natural that there would be new casting announcements, and the latest is a promising addition.

Ukrainian actress Ivanna Sakhno has just joined the show in a currently unknown role, though sources at Deadline claim she'll be playing a brand new character. Alongside Dawson and Natasha Liu Bordizzo, who was recently cast as Sabine Wren, Sakhno looks to be playing a substantial part in Ahsoka. Given the time frame of the series, which takes place shortly after Return of the Jedi, there are multiple possibilities for the new cast member, and she seems up to the task for any of them.

Sakhno is arguably best known for her role as Cadet Viktoria in Pacific Rim: Uprising, though she also gained some notoriety playing Nadedja in The Spy Who Dumped Me. Aside from those 2 rather beefy projects, she has also made an appearance in Hulu's High Fidelity and is set to appear in the upcoming MGM International production The Reunion. She appears to be the first cast member for Ahsoka who won't be playing a returning character.

Star Wars: Ahsoka has tons of potential and possibilities, especially given exciting reveals like an appearance by Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader. Ahsoka's last appearance before The Mandalorian saw her and Sabine setting off in search of their friend Ezra Bridger and the cunning Grand Admiral Thrawn, who had both disappeared in a hyperspace jump thanks to a daring gambit by Ezra in the Star Wars Rebels series finale. It looks as though the search will continue in the upcoming series, which should make for a fascinating story.

While it's unknown who Sakhno will play, the possibilities are functionally endless and endlessly intriguing. Maybe she'll be an Imperial officer, or perhaps the leader of some local resistance. Whomever she ends up playing, there's still a bit of a wait before fans get to see what writer Dave Filoni has in store for characters both old and new. So why not give Rebels another watch?

Ahsoka will release exclusively on Disney Plus. No premiere date has been confirmed as of yet.
