Obi-Wan Kenobi comes to an action-packed, emotional end with Part 6, the finale. Disney Plus’ Obi-Wan Kenobi series did a great job of bridging Star Wars’ mainline films, from Revenge of the Sith to A New Hope. With this finale, there are plenty of easter eggs and details that fans might have missed, even from the most die-hard of Star Wars fans.
With each part of Obi-Wan Kenobi, fans were treated to 6 episodes, each featuring their unique Easter eggs. Some easter eggs involved old Jedi, whether that be from Legends or the canon animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Part 6 doesn’t hold back on its easter eggs, and gives the fans what they want.
Warning! Spoilers ahead for Obi-Wan Kenobi.
10 Leia’s Holster
With the sacrifice of Tala Durith (Indira Varma), her holster was found by Kawlan Roken (O’Shea Jackson Jr.). Without Tala, the rebels, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Leia would not have escaped as they did. She held off Stormtroopers and the Imperial Forces with a thermal detonator.
Roken gives the holster to Obi-Wan, who gifts it to Leia, stating that she would have wanted her to have it. This is the same holster we see Leia use in Episode 6: Return of the Jedi. It’s a great moment to show just how important objects can be in Star Wars, and that they always have a history.
9 Obi-Wan’s Iconic Stance
As Obi-Wan prepares for his rematch with Darth Vader, he proves himself capable in the Force again. No longer is he scared to be the Jedi Master he was all those years ago. Obi-Wan reinforces just how much he remembers, and how well he has retrained to fight Vader once more, as he strikes into his iconic pose.
This pose was first seen in live-action, in Revenge of the Sith against General Grievous. Obi-Wan Kenobi starts in a Soresu stance, the Form 3 position that is seen as a defensive and challenging stance. This iconic pose returns in Obi-Wan Kenobi’s finale, as he awaits Vader’s aggressive crimson blade.
8 Vader Gets The High Ground
Amongst Star Wars fans, “the high ground” is a reference that they always enjoy. Whether it’s being one foot taller than an opponent, or standing higher up. This is of course, about the climax of Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi’s duel on Mustafar toward the end of Revenge of the Sith. Obi-Wan uses the high ground to the precision point and cut-off Anakin’s limbs, but also used the low ground in The Phantom Menace to cut Darth Maul in half.
In part 6, Darth Vader proves to Obi-Wan that he is more powerful, and remembers their fated dual. Vader uses the Force and throws Kenobi to the ground, and stands over him, lingering from the height difference to show now that he has the high ground.
7 Obi-Wan’s New Hope
With Obi-Wan trapped under a pile of rocks, left to suffocate underneath their weight and through the lack of air, he desperately tries to use the Force to free himself. His past causes further torment, as he has a traumatic attack from hearing both Anakin and Vader’s hate-filled voices.
Then, all goes calm, as Obi-Wan thinks of Luke and Leia, the last hope of the Jedi, and the galaxy. With the children of Anakin Skywalker on his mind, and his mission clear, Obi-Wan explodes the rocks that have buried him and returns to fight his former friend.
6 Rematch Of The Century
When Obi-Wan Kenobi was first announced for Disney Plus, the President of Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy revealed Hayden Christensen's return as Darth Vader, and that “this will be the rematch of the century.” Fans first saw Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader fight in A New Hope in 1977, to which Kenobi surrendered himself to the Force and let Vader strike him down. Then, they saw the chronological first fight on Mustafar, in Revenge of the Sith.
Fans eagerly awaited a fight between Vader and Kenobi, in line with what they saw in Revenge of the Sith. Obi-Wan Kenobi certainly did not disappoint and gave fans a fight-filled with clashing lightsabers, powerful Force moves, and an intense emotional climax.
5 “Years Ago, You Served My Father In The Clone Wars”
As Obi-Wan Kenobi visits Alderaan to see Leia Organa, he also reunites with his old friend Bail Organa (Jimmy Smits). Bail Organa warns Kenobi that the Empire is growing stronger, and bolder. It’s a tragic foreshadowing as Obi-Wan tells Bail he knows who to come to for help, with Bail saying, “let’s hope that day never comes”. Fans of the original Star Wars know that the day does come.
In A New Hope, Princess Leia provides R2-D2 with a message to give to Obi-Wan Kenobi, stating that she needs his help and that her father, Bail Organa, begs him for his help once more. Sadly, Alderaan is destroyed by the recently built Death Star, and then Kenobi falls to Vader.
4 Emperor Palpatine
Ian McDiarmid once again returns to play the iconic and sinister Emperor Palpatine. In live-action, this is Ian McDiarmid’s 7th live-action appearance as The Emperor. McDiarmid appeared in all films of the Prequel Trilogy, Return of the Jedi, The Rise of Skywalker, and in The Empire Strikes Back in the 2004 DVD release and subsequent releases, and the 7th time being in Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Having The Emperor present in Obi-Wan Kenobi, helps to reinforce the link between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, as The Emperor would have been the active ruler of the galaxy at this time, and kept a watchful eye on Darth Vader.
3 Obi-Wan Kenobi’s Jedi Attire
Toward the end of Part 6 of Obi-Wan Kenobi, we see Obi-Wan back on Tatooine, the planet of his self-imposed exile, and the location of his pledge, to protect Luke Skywalker, and train him when the time is right. Obi-Wan packs up his cave and takes his belongings, and is wearing notably different clothing.
His attire consists of white Jedi robes. Obi-Wan Kenobi has reinstated his path as a Jedi Master, with the full embracing of the light side of the Force. His attire is largely influenced by his look in both A New Hope and his adventures on Tatooine during the Marvel Comics’ Star Wars series.
2 “Hello There”
As Obi-Wan visits the Lars homestead to say goodbye to Owen, he is allowed to meet Luke Skywalker. This boy would later grow up to be the one we see in A New Hope, played by Mark Hamill. As Kenobi approaches Luke with a warm smile, he utters two words that send the sanest of Star Wars fans into a frenzy: “Hello there.”
The reason this line is so famed is due in part to the first words uttered by Alec Guinness’ Obi-Wan Kenobi in 1977’s Star Wars and then spoken again by a charismatic and eager Ewan McGregor in Revenge of the Sith. Fans love this line and have a favorite in McGregor’s delivery due to its boldness and charm.
1 Master Qui-Gon Jinn
As fans prepare to watch through the rolling credits of Obi-Wan Kenobi, to thank all of the talented people that worked on the show, they are given one more final treat. As Obi-Wan rides off through the dune sea of Tatooine, he sees the spectral projection of an old friend.
Qui-Gon Jinn returns, played again by Liam Neeson. He was last seen in live-action with 1999’s The Phantom Menace. As Obi-Wan’s Master, it’s a great reunion between the two characters, with Qui-Gon Jinn being a Force ghost, who begins to train Kenobi and Yoda on how to become one with the Force in death.
