In a recent interview, Star Trek writer Bryan Fuller reveals that the fan favorite two part episode of Voyager, "Year of Hell," was initially planned to span over the course of an entire season. This has understandably excited and riled up fans of the series, as it was one of the most popular episodes.

Fuller is best known for his work on Star Trek: Voyager, but has participated in other Star Trek projects as well. He described the situation during a podcast with Inglorious Treksperts, explaining that he and other writers had wanted to take a more serialized approach for a season.

Star Trek: Voyager focused more on individual episodes that didn't tie together than its predecessor, Deep Space Nine, and Fuller, being a huge fan of the latter wanted to incorporate some of those elements in. Unfortunately, the idea was shot down by Rick Berman, Star Trek: Voyager's co-creator and executive producer.

It is understanding for both fans and the writers to be disappointed, as the writers were cut from 22 episodes to just two, and even still those two episodes went on to be some of the most popular of the show. It certainly seems like a missed opportunity.

Star Trek: Voyager almost aired "Year of Hell" as an entire season.
