The Star Trek universe is alive and well thanks to shows like Star Trek: Picard on CBS All Access. The MMORPG Star Trek Online is also looking to keep itself relevant by taking on a "major, multipart, 2411-focused Klingon storyline" called the Year of the Klingon.

Though the announcement posted to Arc Games' website on April 29 said developers "can't release the details" of what the 12-month event will entail, they drop a few hints about how its content will change the face of the game, in part thanks to potential time travel shenanigans. One thing promised is that players can expect visual and gameplay facelifts in Star Trek Online, including to "classic" Klingon character models and ships like the Bird of Prey.

To keep up on what will be added into the game over the Year of the Klingon, the announcement recommends following its Twitter and Facebook pages for weekly updates, as well as watching interviews on community Twitch streams every Wednesday.

While much of the content within Star Trek Online is unique, it has tied into major events revolving around the larger Star Trek universe in the past. For instance, a memorial to Leonard Nimoy, who played Spock in the original series, was held in 2015.

Star Trek Online is available now on Mac, PC, PS4, Xbox One.
