Earlier this year, Cryptic Studios' MMORPG Star Trek Online began its "Year of Klingon" event, promising a "major, multipart" storyline that would coincide with visual improvements, universe-altering content, and more. The latest part of that event, an update called House Shattered, began Tuesday for PC users through Arc Games, Steam, and a newly-released Epic Games Store version.

Fans of the MMO will likely be most interested in taking on the update's first story mission, "Partisans," which follows up on the arc of the previous House Divided season by having players seek out a place to hide after being proclaimed enemies of the Klingon Empire. Three characters in the story are being portrayed by Star Trek veterans, according to a press release: Robert O'Reilly from The Next Generation, J.G. Hertzler from Deep Space Nine, and Rekha Sharma from the CBS All Access series Star Trek: Discovery.

However, there are additional new things coming to the game beyond a continuation of its main story. A new Task Force Operation for up to five players named "Synth Wave" has been added, based on events in Star Trek: Picard; four previous missions from the Warzone Klingon arc have been revamped; and a new token item will allow players to upgrade T6 and T5U starships with extra elements.

While this update is available now for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One users will have to wait until January 12, 2021 to take part, according to publisher Perfect World Entertainment's press release. Even so, Star Trek Online fans should have a lot to dig into as updates keep rolling out, and fans of the franchise in general will likely be excited to hear some familiar voices return to the final frontier.

Star Trek Online is available now on Mac, PC, PS4, Xbox One.
