Star Ocean: The Divine Force is the most recent JRPG developed by Square Enix. It blends fantasy and science-fiction elements in a manner that few franchises can only hope to accomplish. Even so, this game varies greatly from earlier entries in the series.

It's also a large RPG that's overflowing with things to uncover, from the different combat elements to the world's hidden secrets. There are a lot of moving components in this game, so it wouldn't be shocking if new players eventually became overwhelmed. Those who do would benefit from a few beginner tips for Star Ocean: The Divine Force.

7 Blindside Opponents

Star Ocean: The Divine Force

The player will meet a mysterious mechanism called D.U.M.A. very early on in the adventure. Upon doing so, they'll get some amazing new skills that will completely change the way that they fight. Perhaps the most prominent of these new skills is the VA attack.

Players can send themselves like a missile toward an opponent with the click of a button (however, this does depend on the character they're using). Just before players approach the opponent, it's wise to switch directions in order to escape their sight. The opponent will freeze and become much more prone to damage.

6 Craft Items

Star Ocean: The Divine Force

In Star Ocean: The Divine Force, the ability to create items is included, just as it was in the games that came before it. Fulfilling Welch's wishes in Delryk unlocks more crafting options, creating new umbrella items and upgrading current ones.

Item crafting was frequently overlooked by newer players in prior releases, and it might happen the same in the current one as well (possibly since it's voluntarily obtained). It's also worth noting that the latter sections of the journey truly depend on item making since there are so many more powerful materials available.

5 Chain Combos

Star Ocean: The Divine Force

Star Ocean: The Divine Force allows players to assign many combat skills to a single button and use them successively in a Chain Combo. Players are free to arrange them any way they please, but they need to be cautious of the distance requirements for certain skills.

The many maneuvers the player may unleash may be intended for short, medium, and long distances; thus, the player will need to consider how to combine them so that they flow together most efficiently. There is no 'perfect' or 'wrong' configuration, but the Chain Combos can affect a player's fighting tactics. Therefore, it's important to be aware of their effective range and possible limitations.

4 Adjust Settings

At some point during their journey, players are almost certain to come up against a formidable foe. Perhaps they're using a blade with an element that their opponent is immune to, their team members are unsuitable for the battlefield, or their Chain Combos just don't seem right.

Instead of trying to push the issue (or worse, trying to escape), the player may simply go to the menu and alter the situation. They can change their gear and team members at any time, even in the middle of a battle, giving them the freedom to experiment with various configurations and discover new methods that will lead them to victory.

3 Stop Mode

Star Ocean: The Divine Force

Battles in Star Ocean: The Divine Force can at times be rather fierce. The speed and agility of both allies and foes make for furious, fast-paced combat. For that reason, players may feel the desire to ease up on the pace sometimes. This is where Stop Mode comes into play.

The player can use this to halt the action and catch their breath. It's also essential for maintaining a team in fighting shape. The player can give them commands, use supplies, and more without feeling under pressure to decide what to do next. The time it gives the player to think about their fighting strategy can come in handy, especially during some of the more challenging boss encounters.

2 Upgrades

Star Ocean: The Divine Force

To acquire new skills in Star Ocean: The Divine Force, players must use SP, which they can earn by defeating foes. Adding skills also demands the unlocking of nodes in the skill tree, and, since the whole skill tree is accessible from the beginning, players may plan their advancement toward the skills they desire most.

It's up to the player how their character develops. They can choose between active and passive skills, enhance existing abilities, and more. Creating a hero that fits one's own tastes is a lot of fun. However, the player should keep in mind that they can't change their spec, so they should be strategic with their SP.

1 Switch Characters

Star Ocean: The Divine Force

Players should never feel obligated to keep command of their default hero. They may swap between characters during and after combat. Each character has a unique combat style, and it is to the player's benefit to study their intricacies, strengths, and weaknesses firsthand.

In addition, some will be well suited for certain combat situations, and acquiring direct control of them will allow players to use their skills more effectively than the AI can. Furthermore, there will be times when the player will want to do so since switching things up every once in a while is a lot of fun.

Star Ocean: The Divine Force is available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Microsoft Windows.
