The character designer for Star Fox marks six years since the release of the series' Wii U entry by taking to Twitter to call on Nintendo to release a port of the game for the Switch.

In 2016, Nintendo released the Star Fox entry Star Fox Zero on the Wii U. A number of Wii U titles from around this time have received ports to the Switch over recent years, but notable by its absence is any port of Star Fox Zero.

There certainly seems to be an interest in a Switch version of the game, including from the game's developer PlatinumGames who definitely seem keen to give a second life to Star Fox Zero on the Switch. One person clearly on board with this idea is Takaya Imamura, who worked as a supervisor on Star Fox Zero and assisted series creator Shigeru Miyamoto with the series' character designs. In a tweet celebrating six years since the release of the Wii U title, Imamura asked Nintendo to pull the trigger on porting the game to Switch.

Imamura seems passionate about bringing Zero to a new console, reaching out to Nintendo via Twitter to plead his case and even offering them something in return if it does. In his tweet, he offers his creative services to make contributions to any sequels to the Star Fox Zero animation Star Fox: The Battle Begins that Nintendo may wish to produce in the future.

There is certainly precedent for porting titles from the Wii U era to the Nintendo Switch. One of PlatinumGames' own Wii U titles, The Wonderful 101, received a Switch port in recent years. Star Fox is a popular series with a well-established fan base, so Zero certainly seems like a logical contender for a title to port to the current generation console.

Despite whatever support there may be for a Switch release from fans and developers, PlatinumGames has yet to be approached by Nintendo about bringing Zero to the Switch. The game received mixed reviews upon its release from critics and fans alike, with the game's control system in particular receiving a lot of negative feedback. Technical issues like this are not insurmountable when porting a game and Nintendo is certainly aware of the power of nostalgia, so a Switch release of Star Fox Zero is certainly not an impossibility, particularly if vocal support like Imamura's continues to grow.
