Nintendo officially launches a brand new Website for Star Fox Zero, its forthcoming 3D side-scrolling shooter and aerial combat title for the Wii U console.

Nintendo's website for the Wii U exclusive Star Fox Zero has gone live and can be visited through this link right here. The site features some fresh and previously revealed screenshots, in addition to some new game art, as seen in our gallery below. Nevertheless, the development for the title's online domain appears to still be in progress, as the company has listed “Full site coming soon” at the bottom of the main page.

As far as new materials go, the Star Fox Zero website gives fans a few cool-looking wallpapers for their desktops and mobile devices. Plus, a short overview of what can be considered one of the title's more unique features reads, "see your surroundings on your TV, and get a different view on the GamePad by tilting it to aim", which should offer an interesting wrinkle of gameplay.

While the creation of the website shows that Nintendo is indeed working on the game, fans have been waiting for more concrete news about Star Fox Zero ever since its reveal trailer at E3 2015 several months ago, which originally listed the title as being available sometime during the holidays of 2015. However, its release was delayed until 2016 to allow for developers to further polish in-game materials.

A month after the announcement of Star Fox Zero's postponement, Yusuke Hashimoto of Platinum Games—co-developer of the title with Nintendo—gave a reason for its delay, saying that the creators needed extra time to obtain the studio's signature “Platinum feel”. Hashimoto also explained that it was difficult for the development team to make sure that the dynamic between the Wii U's GamePad and the television screen would be compelling fun, because the project's designers lacked experience with shooters.

Obviously, the rescheduling of Star Fox Zero was not only a major disappointment to many fans of the franchise, but also to Wii U owners in general. As many Nintendo fans will attest, the current-gen console lacks a considerable amount of distinctive titles to represent the system this holiday season, save for Super Mario Maker and the upcoming Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash. But with The Legend of Zelda for Wii U getting delayed until 2016 as well, it seems as if Nintendo might fall behind the competition in sales at the end of the year.

Sure, having to wait longer for Star Fox Zero is a drag, but at least developers have been candid as to why the title is coming out in 2016 instead. After all, it's more important for all of the problems in a game to be ironed out before it gets released as a broken mess.

Star Fox Zero is currently set for release sometime in the first quarter of 2016—presumably March—exclusively for the Wii U.
