STALKER 2: Heart of Chernobyl has had a big presence at Xbox events these past couple years, as the game has been positioned as a major console exclusive for the Xbox Series X. And since it's been such a long time since the release of the first STALKER, hype has been especially high for the game. Fans were hoping to play STALKER 2: Heart of Chernobyl this coming April, but it seems those plans have changed.

It previously leaked that the STALKER 2 release date was likely delayed, and it turns out those rumors are true. Developer GSC Game World has confirmed that it is pushing the STALKER 2 release date all the way back to December 8, 2022, delaying the game by nearly a year.

In a statement to fans, GSC Game World explained that this extra development time is necessary for the developers to "fulfil [their] vision." This extra development time will allow for more polish and should hopefully result in a better game once the new STALKER 2: Heart of Chernobyl release date rolls around at the end of the year.

The developers added that the decision to delay STALKER 2: Heart of Chernobyl's release date was "not an easy one," but that the development team is doing its best to deliver a game that can live up to fan expectations. And as previously mentioned, STALKER 2 fans have lofty expectations for the game, so it definitely has a lot to live up to. Whether or not it lives up to the hype remains to be seen, but fans will find out at the end of the year, and in the meantime, the developers have promised that more information on the game will come between now and launch.

With STALKER 2 being a day one Xbox Game Pass game and regularly featured at Xbox events, one has to imagine that these news updates will continue to happen in association with Xbox. One has to imagine that STALKER 2 will be a given at big upcoming events like Microsoft's E3 2022 press conference and Gamescom, though nothing official to that effect has been announced at the time of this writing.

For the most part, fans seem to be excited for STALKER 2, with a positive reaction to its gameplay trailers and the like. There was a bump in the road when STALKER 2 announced plans to incorporate NFTs, though the developer backtracked that decision following some pretty severe backlash. With the NFT controversy behind it and a new release date in sight, hopefully it's smooth sailing for STALKER 2 from here on out.

STALKER 2: Heart of Chernobyl will launch on December 8, 2022 for PC and Xbox Series X.
