Update 10/4: A previous version of this post stated that the Google Premiere Pro edition included a 1-month trial membership for Stadia Pro. While this is true, the trial is available to all users for free.

Google Stadia has been a curious case since it was first revealed a few years ago. While the service showed a decent amount of promise leading up to its release, a bevy of technical issues and a lackluster selection of games caused the streaming platform to struggle to attract users. However, a new deal might be just what Google needs to attract a wider player base to Stadia, if it catches on.

Currently, Google Stadia is offering a free Premiere Edition setup with certain game pre-orders over $59.99. The Google Stadia Premiere Edition includes a Stadia controller and a Chromecast Ultra, a bundle that typically runs at $79.99 on its own according to Google’s website. The Stadia Premiere bundle launched at $129.99, and has received price cuts in the time since.

Gamers that have the internet connection speeds to support such a service may want to give it a try with this deal. It’s important to keep in mind, however, that the Stadia controller, Chromecast Ultra, and Pro subscription aren’t necessarily a requirement to use the service. Fans can also opt to just play through the Google Chrome browser on a different device using touch or a controller.

Basically, the ask from Google for this promotion is essentially for players to gamble on buying a new triple-a game through the service. The promotion included a list of eligible pre-orders, containing titles like the upcoming FPS RPG game Far Cry 6, though it appears that any $60 game will fit the bill, so long as it launches between now and October 10, 2021.

After purchasing the game, Google will send the user a code between now and October 20. Buyers can then redeem their code for the new hardware, which will allow them to game on any screen with an HDMI port so long as they have an active internet connection. However, while the devices themselves are free, the promotion states that buyers might be responsible for shipping costs.

The offer isn’t available everywhere, though users in the US, UK, Ireland, Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Austria, and Switzerland are all eligible to claim it. While there are still certainly some issues with Stadia, this sort of offer might just be able to sway public opinion, at least a little bit.
