Google Stadia is still a few months away and there are a lot of details that consumers will hopefully learn before the cloud-based streaming service is officially live. Shoppers who purchased the Founder's Edition on good faith will get access to the service in November and the Stadia Support page was just updated with some new details about how that experience will work.

One of the big questions about Google Stadia at launch, aside from a full list of available games, is which devices the service will support. There's been a lot of talk about playing on any device with an internet connection or WiFi eventually, but at launch that list is going to be much shorter... Especially when it comes to mobile devices.

During the last Stadia press conference, Google did mention that only certain mobile devices would officially have Stadia support at launch when November arrives. The updated support page goes into a little more detail about exactly which Pixel phones are going to be needed to use the service.

Will Stadia work on any Android phone?

"At launch, if you’re a Stadia user, you can play Stadia exclusively on Pixel 3 and 3a devices. However, you’ll be able to create your account and make subscription and game purchases from any Android M+ or iOS 11+ device that has access to the Stadia app."

This is probably a little disappointing for Android users who don't have the latest Pixel devices. Hopefully the list of supported devices grows quickly after the early launch to include not only other Android devices, but also iOS phones and tablets. The support page also touched on which Chromecast devices will support Stadia at launch...

Which Chromecast devices are compatible with Stadia?

For launch in November, only the Google Chromecast Ultra will be compatible with Stadia, and you will also need a Stadia Controller and access to Stadia to play with Chromecast. Access to Stadia in November is only available through the Founder's Edition or through a Stadia Buddy Pass. Stay tuned for future announcements regarding additional device compatibility.

Be sure to check back in the coming months as we learn more for additional Stadia news and updates.
