With each new trailer and set of screenshots released, EA's SSX re-boot looks better and better. Today's example is no different, and thanks to the Pretty Lights remix of "It's Tricky," the new trailer is as much a treat to listen to as it is to watch.

That's right, "It's Tricky" is returning to SSX! Perhaps no popular song has ever been more closely associated with a video game. As the theme to SSX Tricky, RUN-D.M.C.'s classic accompanied countless players as they hurled themselves down the most surreal set of slopes the series had seen. That was then, this is now.

SSX returns next February with an all new set of mountains based on NASA satellite data, and a wealth of social networking features. The game takes place in a massive world, and the new landscapes are the largest and most imposing the series has ever seen, but that shouldn't stop SSX veterans from landing tricks every step of the way.

Take a look at the SSX "It's Tricky" trailer below.

SSX Audio Producer Freddy Ouano on what "It's Tricky" means to SSX:

“Music has always been an important element of the SSX franchise. ‘It’s Tricky’ had such a monumental impact on fans of SSX Tricky that we wanted to pay tribute to the song by introducing it to a whole new generation of SSX and music fans.  We chose Pretty Lights to remix the track because he’s a phenomenal artist whose style fits well with the tone and direction of this rebirth of SSX.”

Roughly three months remain until SSX's Valentine's Day release date, but that shouldn't stop interested gamers from pre-ordering now. SSX will be subject to the standard retailer specific bonuses (one of which appears to significantly eclipse the others), so choose wisely. Details below:

  • GameStop — receive legendary SSX character Eddie Wachowski, and his Elite Snowboard with an attribute Perk.
  • Origin — receive Elise’s Elite Snowboard with an attribute Perk.
  • Amazon — receive Mac’s Elite snowboard with an attribute Perk.
  • Best Buy — receive Zoe’s Elite snowboard with an attribute Perk.
  • Wal-Mart — receive Kaori’s Elite snowboard with an attribute Perk.

Those "attribute perks" may be fantastic, but the promise of a bonus character is hard to pass up.

Ranters, what do you think about the return of "It's Tricky" to SSX -- is it a way for the developers to demonstrate that they understand what fans loved about the old games, or just a cynical nostalgia grab? Where will you be pre-ordering the game?

SSX releases February 14, 2012, for the Xbox 360 and PS3.
