Video games have long featured animals as the main playable characters, with a recent example being cat-focused game Stray. But an upcoming game, releasing on Steam, literally featuring a squirrel with a gun that is able to commit crimes and terrorize humans is especially turning heads. In clips posted to Twitter of the upcoming game, Squirrel with a Gun, first gameplay was shown, and the game seems to be exactly what the name implies.Squirrel with a Gun is a bizarre indie game that now has a Steam page. The Steam page describes the game as, "It is not easy, but it's fun, to be a squirrel with a gun. Squirrel with a gun is a sandbox game that focuses on exploration and shooting combat." Besides robbing humans, players can also help the citizens as a squirrel with a gun and receive gifts, like a cake. The game is also going to have a deflection mechanic to take on "Agents," which presumably will be the game's primary antagonists. Players will also be able to use the recoil from firing guns to launch their cute and deadly squirrel high into the air.RELATED: 8 Most Evil Animals in Video GamesIn the 23-second video posted to Twitter by Dan Entremont, the creator of Squirrel with a Gun, the adorable player-character squirrel isn't so adorable when he holds a human at gunpoint and commits a robbery. The video also shows how cute the human NPCs think the squirrel is with one of them just trying to take a photo of the squirrel before it pulls out a gun and makes the human fear for his life, with the squirrel then chasing the man down. The video ends with the squirrel running with a cell phone, stolen from the man it just held at gunpoint and chased. While the video is brief, it tells the audience all it needs to know about this game: it's a game with a squirrel that has a gun, adding to the growing list of animal-focused games in recent years and still to come, like Goat Simulator 3 releasing on November 17.

The video, at the time of writing, has over 12 million views. The mass majority of the comments on the video are positive, with users praising the simplicity and how ruthless it is to be a cute creature with a gun. This also isn't the first time in which players could play as a cute creature that could turn violent in a hurry. Head of Xbox Phil Spencer says it's up to developer Rare on if we'll ever see new entires in the Conker series, which also had a squirrel as the playable character.

This game just shows that games do not have to be triple-A or high budget to grab an audience's attention. With the video exploding the way it is, developer Dan DeEntremont is sure to be getting more donations to this project, as it's clear gamers really just want to play as a cute squirrel and give it a gun.

Squirrel with a Gun does not have a release date but can be added to users wishlist on Steam now.
