After taking over the streaming charts and social media conversations, Netflix's Squid Game is now in the run to win three Golden Globe Awards. The Korean dystopian drama was nominated in three different categories when the announcements for the Golden Globe Awards were made on Monday. The nominations have been appreciated and welcomed by fans of the series.

The Netflix series started streaming in September and since then Squid Game has become most-watched series on the service. On the show, contestants participate in a series of children’s games, including “Red Light, Green Light” and tug of war. However, there are deathly consequences to losing a game, a fact that the contestants only discover once they start playing the first game. Now, the series will participate in its own contest, the awards.

As part of the Golden Globe announcements, Squid Game was nominated for Best Television Series, Drama. It isn’t the only foreign language series to be nominated for the category, though, and will be going up against Netflix’s hit show Lupin. The latter is another extremely popular series on the streamer and is originally a French mystery thriller. Subscribers have the option to view it dubbed in other languages, including English. Other series in the same category include Apple TV Plus’ The Morning Show, FX’s Pose, and HBO Max’s Succession.

Lee Jung-jae, who portrays the role of the protagonist Seong Gi-hun on Squid Game, received a nomination for the Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series, Drama. The series mostly follows Seong’s journey from a debt-ridden individual to the winner of the horrific games. He is the only one out of the 456 contestants to survive all the games and goes home with the 45.6 billion Korean Won. Lee will be up against Brian Cox for Succession, Billy Porter for Pose, Jeremy Strong for Succession, and Omar Sy for Lupin.

The final nomination went to Oh Yeong-su for the Best Supporting Actor, Television. The South Korean actor portrayed the role of contestant 001, Oh Il-nam, who is revealed at the end to be the person in charge of the games. Ever since the series premiered, the 77-year-old actor has been receiving a lot of praise for his performance and the nomination seems like the perfect cherry on top. Other actors nominated in the category include Billy Crudup for The Morning Show, Kieran Culkin for Succession, Mark Duplass for The Morning Show, and Brett Goldstein for Ted Lasso.
