E3 is just a few days away, which means that both fans and developers are busy preparing for the big event. Although Sony won't be attending this year, that doesn't mean there won't be plenty of major announcements at the show. There have been a lot of rumors surrounding surprise announcements from Square Enix and a recent summary of the company's financial results briefing suggests that something major is arriving in 2020/2021.

E3 2019 is poised to be a major event for Square Enix, with Avengers and Final Fantasy 7 being two of the most highly anticipated games of the show. In addition to those, new rumors suggest that an Outriders game may also be revealed. Put all of that together and it really does sound like Square Enix is about to have a very popular couple of years.

Some more details revealed in the company's financial briefing earlier this week prove that internal stakeholders believe the company's plans for fiscal year 2020 are going to drive up profits and growth considerably.

"When you see the lineup we will be unveiling at E3, I believe that you will understand why we now expect a sharp growth curve between FY2020/3 and FY2021/3 rather than the gradual curve that we had originally anticipated. In addition to our major titles, we also have FY2020/3 releases planned for some unique and promising games, including some for smartphones. As such, we hope that our earnings will overshoot our initial targets for sales of ¥270 billion and operating income of ¥24 billion."

The promise of something unique coming that involves smartphones seems to be yet another surprise reveal for the E3 stage. It will be very exciting to watch the show and find out if this is some new app that connects to existing Square Enix products or something else entirely new.

Be sure to check back throughout the coming week for more E3 2019 news and updates.

Square Enix's E3 2019 press conference is scheduled for Monday, June 10.
