Square Enix revealed some interesting news at their CESA Developers Conference, unveiling their latest next-generation engine 'Luminous'.
Luminous promises big things, and is raising quite a fuss, considering the image above was the first time players got a glimpse at the new engine.
Recognize anybody in that photo? If you know video games you know that face... or well, at least those eyes. Yep, they are teasing us with Cloud Strife. Considering Cloud's appearance in the poster, some are speculating that it may hint toward a remake of FF7 - which is heralded as the greatest Final Fantasy game of all time.
Yoshihisa Hashimoto, an executive at Square Enix revealed the Luminous Engine after discussions about the G2 and CDC engines used in the production of Kane and Lynch 2: Dog Days. These two engines will also be used in the latest Deus Ex title - set to blow minds in 2011. The new engine will still retain most of the features in the previous engines but will add many more.
Speaking about the engine, Hashimoto stated:
"Luminous is a game engine that can truly take on the world head on."
The features that Luminous did show-off included: live editing, automatic build, automatic test, and advanced rendering, but I'm sure there will be many more unveiled in the future - once the game engine gets a proper chance to show its stuff.
