While Square Enix would normally announce new games during E3, the event's cancelation due to COVID-19 threw a wrench in that plan. In spite of this setback, the company announced that it would still be announcing new games but in a different way later in the summer.

While coronavirus is changing the way that gaming companies are letting fans know about new games in development, big names like Square Enix are still moving forward with presenting new games to the public. While Square Enix and Crystal recently teamed up to showcase never before seen elements from its upcoming game Marvel's Avengers, there is still more that the company has in store for its fans.

During a stockholder meeting on June 24, Square Enix was asked how the pandemic has affected the company's plans to announce new games. The Square Enix representative on the call said that the company had a plan to let the public know about the new games that are being developed. Since E3 is canceled, the company initially planned a press conference, but since some of Square Enix's assets were not ready in time, the company will be announcing a new game individually. The representative went on to say that several games are lined up to be debuted later in the summer.

Specifically, fans can expect to see new game reveals from Square Enix in July and August. This new information showed that, had the press conference that the company planned not been canceled, these game announcements would have been similar to Xbox and Ubisoft's reactions to E3's cancellation. Many other video game companies have been streaming digital announcements to fill the void that the gaming conference usually occupied.

With this new information, fans of Square Enix have a lot to be excited about in the next two months. Many gamers are already theorizing about what to expect from the company. Some believe that Square Enix may be lining up to announce Final Fantasy 16 since the last numerical game in the series came out in 2016. The company has already shown it is working on two new games — Project Athia and Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory — so fans are looking forward to seeing what else is in store from Square Enix.
