When Spyro: Reiginited Trilogy released late last year, fans were vocal in addressing a particular issue pertaining to the lack of subtitles in cut-scenes, a feature found in most games today. While Activision made it clear the decision to exclude subtitles in Spyro was a conscious one, both the publisher, and developer Toys for Bobs, have been radio silent on the matter since its reasoning was addressed. The latest update coming to the remastered PlayStation 1 adventures of Spyro, however, shows the developer has been listening to fans, and is righting its wrongs.

The latest patch update for Spyro: Reignited Trilogy will now include the option for subtitles in cinematics. Given the push in recent years for accessibility in gaming experiences, Toys for Bobs' latest title now meets the standards gamers expect from new releases. Back in 2017, Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, which was also published by Activision, didn't have any subtitles in the game either. However, Spyro has much more cutscenes compared to Crash, which made the exclusion of subtitles more noticeable.

While Spyro: Reignited Trilogy has reviewed well across most media outlets, it wasn't without its spark of controversy in the months leading up to launch. First, the game was delayed from its original September release into November. The delay announcement for Spyro was coupled with the developer voicing the need to further polish and optimize the game for a strong launch day, a common reason for most brief delays in the current gaming climate.

Another issue that surfaced was news regarding the physical version of the game. Physical copies of Spyro: Reignited Trilogy included digital voucher codes for the second and third games in the trilogy, Ripto's Rage! and Year of the Dragon, while the disc only included the first game. This equates to minimal resale value for those who prefer to trade-in games once they've completed them, and causes even more trouble for others who may not have a suitable internet connection to download the other two games in the first place.

The addition of subtitles now means all three games are fully accessible to anyone who either needs or wants the ability to read what's being said on screen. Disregarding cut-scenes, all conversations with NPCs and companions in Spyro: Reignited Trilogy have text dialog which coincide with them. So while the majority of the three games display text dialog for conversations already, the game's latest patch now erases any accessibility obstacles players may have previously encountered.

Spyro: Reignited Trilogy is out now for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
