For over a year a small team has been working to recreate the world of Spyro, in order to deliver a new story for the adored dragon to embark on. However, with less than two months until the release of Spyro: Reignited Trilogy, the developers of Spryo: Myths Awaken have been sent a cease and desist letter from Activison's lawyers.

The fan made game, Spyro: Myths Awaken, was set to be a sequel to Insomniac's Spyro trilogy. Seeking to provide fans with a new quest for Spyro to undergo, the developers wanted more Spyro lore, rather than using the same story remade with new artwork, like that of the forthcoming Spyro: Reignited Trilogy. In Myths Awaken, fans were going to experience 4 boss realms, 4 mini-boss realms, and 24 base realms. The story's plot involved Spyro having to stop Medusa as she sought immortality in Mythica.

Many players have been eagerly waiting for the release of Myths Awaken, but after Activision's involvement, the fan game will not be seeing the light of day, at least under that title. Having put a year of time and effort into their game, the small development team will be keeping the story, levels, and gameplay the same. By changing the game's title and the characters, the fan game avoids the demands of the cease and desist letter.

While Spyro fans are disappointed with the cease and desist, it should come as no shock that the fan made sequel was put to a stop. Being so close to the release of Spyro: Reignited Trilogy, news of Myths Awaken was sure to put a dent in the Reignited Trilogy's sales. A sequel to the original Spyro games does sound much more attractive than a remake with new artwork, but in all fairness, the small team of developers were working without the required license.

Although fans may want a sequel to the original Spyro games, it is unlikely that there will be one. Spyro: Reignited Trilogy is essentially a mere cash grab that will succeed for nostalgic purposes alone and will not provide fans with a new story. While developers seem to have little interest in providing sequels to nostalgic games, they continue to produce remakes of old consoles and games, as can be seen with the releases of the NES, SNES, and the PlayStation Classic.

Spyro: Reignited Trilogy releases on November 13 for PS4 and Xbox One.
