Anya Forger has easily become the star of Spy x Family. She is the one most featured in marketing and holds a large amount of screen time. Loid Forger, the one who put the family together to begin with, also gets a lot of narrative development and focus. Often, however, the family’s mother, Yor, ends up being the one with the least focus put on her, especially in the anime’s only 12-episode run.

Luckily, the Spy x Family manga currently has far more material than what the anime has adapted, and Yor has received much more focus in these chapters. So, there are now a host of details about Yor that anime fans are yet to be introduced to.

8 She’s Prone To Jealousy

Spy x Family Manga Facts

The crux of Spy x Family’s setup might be that the Forgers are a fake family, but it is the dream of every viewer that they will one day become a real one. So, any implication that Yor and Loid might be growing feelings for each other is valuable material.

In a particular manga arc, Yor’s feelings are put on trial by the arrival of a female spy from Loid's organization who is seeking to replace her. Despite not knowing this truth, the presence of another woman is enough to get Yor nervous, even making loid briefly believe she is falling for him when she drunkenly questions if he has feelings for the other woman.

7 She’s Good On The Defensive

The anime has already shown Yor to possess astronomical strength, with her being able to throw a dodgeball with enough force to break trees. Despite the focus on her offense though, she has also been shown to be quite the protector.

In one of the best arcs in the manga so far, Yor has to spend a decent amount of time on the defensive, protecting 2 people from a stream of assassins. In this arc, she is shown to be able to apply her strength and instincts to something other than pure destruction, often having to fight while thwarting any attacks on the family she is protecting.

6 She Works For An Organization Called Garden

Yor’s assassin work has been a big point of mystery so far in the anime. Loid’s spywork hasn’t fully been explored yet either, but the audience at least knows who he works for. The same can’t be said for Yor.

In the manga though, Yor’s employer has been revealed as ‘The Garden’, a secret organization of assassins headed by Shopkeeper, an enigmatic man with a love of gardening. It’s clear that this is a much feared organization in the criminal underground, as even Loid feels tension when Franky mentions their name to him.

5 There’s Another Assassin at Her Cover Job

It’s been well established that Yor works an administrative government job as a cover for her assassinations. Anime viewers might assume that she’s keeping the secret from all of her coworkers, but there is at least one other Garden assassin at city hall.

Matthew McMahon is the director of policy at Berlint city hall, but secretly, he is also a Garden operative. He comes off as quite close to Yor, as they work well together on the job, covering each other’s backs and McMahon even taking charge of cleaning up the blood as Yor spills it.

4 She’s Really Bad At Cooking

Spy x Family Yor's bad cooking

The anime has already mentioned and shown off how well Loid can cook, but it has yet to go into more detail on why Loid is the main cook in the family. Specifically, the fact that Yor is actually a horrible cook.

It’s later revealed that her pragmatism means she only considers the raw nutrients in a meal, not the appearance or taste. This means her food is outright revolting, so much so that only her brother can stand it, as he’s already used to eating it.

3 She Wants To Cook

Spy x Family Anya and Loid enjoy Yor's food

Knowing that her food can be as deadly as her punches, Yor does at some point seek out some cooking training from one of her coworkers. Miraculously, she is actually able to find a dish that she can cook without sending anyone to the ER.

Fittingly, it ends up being a simple stew that her mother made when she was younger. And this only works for her because for once, she is thinking about flavor and appearance. This implies that if she actually has a strong memory of something, she is fully capable of being a decent cook.

2 How She Compares To Other Assassins

Spy x Family Yor attacks a terrorist goon

As strong a character as Yor is, the anime has only shown her fighting against lower tier enemies so far. So, one might wonder if she’s truly an exceptional assassin, or if there are others around that could match her.

As it turns out, Yor is about as good an assassin as Loid is a spy. Which is to say, she might be the best around. During a bodyguard mission on a cruise ship, she is forced to face a swarm of expert assassins and is able to dispatch all of them, with only minor help from McMahon and Anya, showing that she is truly a world-class assassin.

1 She Has A New Student

One of the best moments in the anime so far has been Anya going under Yor’s tutelage, both in the art of combat and dodgeball. While viewers might be waiting for more interactions like this, the manga has actually introduced a fun twist; yet another student for Yor.

It would be hard to predict that this student would be Becky Blackbell, Anya’s only current friend at Eden Academy. Through a series of hilarious misunderstandings, Becky’s one visit to the Forger household results in her deciding to grow stronger, and Yor of course agrees to teach her, meaning there will be two dangerous girls at Eden Academy now.
